MagissoNaturally Cooling Ceramic Carafe #

This line of product is amazing. The carafe keeps water cool for hours. I also have the fruit serving plate and it has a cool surface for fruit and cheese to sit on for the entire evening.

This bucket is ridiculously small. It is good for one or two people. Usually, when you get an ice bucket out, it is because you are entertaining friends and this is worthless for more than two people.

Several defects around the top of the carafe appeared the first time I submerged it in water. I had received it and did not notice the defects and my wife threw out the box so not sure I can even return it. Looking at the exposed chips some of them are on the inside of the rim and there is some roughness to the rim that makes me think this was a production defect. For something this expensive better quality control seems in order. Disappointed.Provides some cooling and is beautiful to look at. A bit larger than I anticipated for my use -- would have rated a 4 if not for the defects.

So I bought this having already bought some other Magisso items loving the style and looks. The ceramics are lovely tactile materials, and the two tone split between a smooth interior (and lid) contrasting the rougher exterior make this a quite stunning ice bucket. Certainly function is not at the expense of form.I've used this on a number of occasions, and the first point is performance does vary depending on whether you adhere to the instructions or not - so it really does make a difference if you follow the instructions and soak the bucket in cold water for awhile before (30-60 minutes) as this apparently sets the ceramic at its best for retaining the temperature inside while evaporating atmospheric water on the outer surface.When I've done this, the ice can last a good 3 hours, maybe 3.5 at a push (this is in Manchester, UK though, at about 15C) - please see my photos below of the bucket on loading it with ice, then after 1 hour, 2 hour, 3 hours and finally 4.5 hours (I missed my 4 hour timer....). Still maybe 50% of the Ice at 2hours but all gone at 4.5hours.When I haven't bothered to soak the bucket before, performance is worse, its gone before 2 hours is up!!One other trick I learnt is to use an ice block in the base of the bucket - but it has to be a small block, I found some nice little round ones which do the trick - the ice blocks are good at retaining cold longer on the basis that larger ice cubes will last longer than small.So there you go, a rather good looking ice bucket, much nicer than a cheap plastic one or metal one, and probably better.
