Digital Design with CPLD Applications and VHDL

Digital Design textbook
This book arrived on time and in good condition. This book serves as a textbook for an introductory course in digital electronics. My copy, last published in 2005 is slightly dated although 95% of the information is still very relevant.

Overly complicated solutions that are outdated
I used this book for a digital logic design class, but it's not all that useful if you want to learn circuit design. There are much better hardware and software solution alternatives available that are completely ignored in this textbook. E.g. microprocessors may be a better option than an FPGA but the book insists on using overly complicated example problems just to try and show how something could be done in VHDL.If you are serious about learning about embedded systems, programmable logic, and the like, I suggest you look else where, especially for the price.

A useful Textbook. Worth borrowing from the University library but a bit expensive to buy as a hardback
A useful book essential to every university library that teaches design courses in electronics. It takes the reader through basic digital logic design techniques and shows how the resultant hardware thus designed can then be described using VHDL. HDLs are essential for any serious logic design projects these days. I am not sure how a complete beginner to logic design would cope though, I regard this a second stage text-book but overall it is a useful book although of debateable benefit for someone who has not studied a beginners course describing the operation of VHDL either online or by one of the many manufacturers of CPLDs/FPGAs. It is easy to treat VHDL as a programming language, which it is not, it is a hardware description language and they are not the same. It would be good if it was readily available as a softback as this book is a bit pricy for its main target audience - first year graduate students.

A nice and reasonable text book
The book is really nice, i love it.The most important thing is it is cheaper than the bookstore at school, it is a good choice for Electrical or Electronic Engineering student. And it very useful , even in the future it will be a good reference.
