Shows what 4K (Ultra HD) is really about
This is the 4K stream of the restored version of the original film made in 1968. I have never been a great fan of Streisand so, despite her Oscar winning performance, I am not tempted to give a higher rating. What I am particularly impressed by is the quality of this restoration. The film received several 'best cinematography' nominations after its release. This restoration shows why it was given so many nominations for its cinematography. The lighting is absolutely spot on throughout. Lighting is what reveals the modeling of Ms Streisand's face and the detail in the dresses. This 4K stream provides the image quality that allows us to see all the detail on our TVs. Even the white-on-white detail of the lace on the wedding dresses in the bride production number is clearly visible. This is detail that it is all too easy to lose through the smallest of errors in exposure or processing of the negative. This brings me on to the quality of the colour rendering. According to the IMDb website, 'Funny Girl' was shot on 35mm negative film stock using the Technicolor process. By this time Technicolor used a single 'tripack' film. This made for simplicity of printing but at the cost of the using dyes that can fade over time. However, this restoration has the vibrancy of a print produced from a set of three strand, Technicolor negatives. The colours are stunning with no apparent signs of distortion or fading. Neutral colours (blacks, whites and greys) hold true with no hint of any hue. The greys are rendered cleanly while skin tones are very impressive. Watch out for the detail in solid colour areas like the red wallpaper and the blues of Ms Streisand's dress.Technically this 4K restoration is very impressive. It shows us what we should be expecting in films and programs made using the 4K standard.

Fabulous movie. *Warning* pretentious Bluray presentation.
Wonderfully entertaining film. Great story, great cast, great music.BUT be warned some numpty has screwed around with the presentation on Bluray. So when you hit play, the music starts, but the screen remains blank. 'To give you that real cinema experience!' What it actually does is convince you the disc is faulty. Patience is rewarded eventually and the screen comes to life. But the stupidity is not over, in the middle of the movie, there is an intermission! Obviously they forgot about the pause button.

Blu-Ray Picture Perfect
It was well worth the wait. Columbia has done a 4-bit restoration and it is nearly perfect. I have given it only 4 stars as the sound is 5.0 DTS and not 5.1. It is a shame that the sub-woofer doesn't get a go. Apart from that I have no other issues with the restoration. Barbara won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Funny Girl and well deserved. 1968 the only time in Best Actress history where there was a tie! The other joint winner was Katherine Hepburn for The Lion in Winter. Amazon.co.uk has Funny Girl at the moment as a Two for 10 pounds special - so be quick!

WONDERFUL STREISAND
An excellent remastering of a wonderful musical. Picture is sharp (for the most part although there are a few soft focus close ups of 'la streisand') and rich warm colour. The sound is 5.0 DTS Master but this can be increased to 7.1 or 9.2 surround if you have the necessary extra channels on your home cinema amp). Definately the best version/format of this movie. The remastering is quite obvious (though not in the same class as the Blu Ray remastering of "Hello Dolly" or "Ten Commandmends" - both of which take the top prize)

Streisand Great. Movie/DVD So So!
Firstly I dislike how the DVD has been formatted as if for a theater/cinema audience with the long overture then an interval all on a blank screen which I couldn't skip. Unnecessary I think. It was also tricky navigating and not user friendly.Still, it is nice to have the great value DVD to compliment the original cast vinyl recording that I have.Having seen the show when it opened in the '60's it was good to see Streisand in Funny Girl again after so many years.I had also seen the original movie years ago and it reminded me how much they partly ruined the theatre version upon transferring it to film. Some new scenes are great but I hate the new ballet scene inserted at the time and it is also a shame that 2 numbers were dropped from the original theatre production. On balance a good enough buy at the price.

Top Banana
What can you say in relation to the gorgeous Ms Streisand, and of course the equally handsome Omar Sharif, when you combine two such forces, it can only go one way - prefection! if you love musicals, especially the ones that actually have renouned singers in the lead role, you won't go wrong with this one. I saw this film many years ago, I can't even remember if it was on T.V. or Video, either way it was a blessing to find it available on DVD - even better its region 2 - not an import!, I class this as a Sunday film, one for all the family - maybe better for older eyes, or young 'wanabee actors/singers eyes', show them how it should be done!, Nice to watch something that doesn't evoke tears of saddness or anger.

I guess its not Funny
When I saw this at the cinema it was probably my first grown up musical, and I fwell inlove with the business called show. Not a huge fan of Ms Streisand, but I think this is her film. Only dissappointment is no commentary and very few extras.
