The Naked Chef Takes Off

Well written, but I don't think I will use many of these recipes
I'm a big fan of Jamie Oliver, but I admit I'm a picky eater. This cookbook just doesn't have a lot of recipes that I will use. I'll pass it along to a friend who enjoys cooking more than I do!

Great for the beginner cook!
At 31, I've finally decided I need to learn to make more than cookies, and after seeing Jamie's Food TV show, I ordered both this and his first book (The Naked Chef). None of the recipes here are overly complex, and most of the ingredients are easily found at the local market. There are plenty of explanations as to why you need to take certain steps (as a beginner, this is very helpful), and the book is loaded with photographs. Oliver writes like he talks, which makes the book easy and fun to read (I love the Britishisms). I tried one recipe, which turned out very well, and I'm looking forward to trying others. One caveat - there are one or two recipes here that also are found in The Naked Chef, but these are "foundation" type recipes (bread, roast chicken) - so if you flip through the book at your local store and notice this, don't feel like you're paying for something you already own.

Delicious!!
I normally cook (when I'm not doing frozen chicken nuggets and mashed potatoes) from Martha Stewart's "Every Day Food" magazine, which has very simple, very basic (yet very tasty) recipes that don't involve much effort other than having lots of olive oil on hand and being willing to roast vegetables. So Jamie Oliver is a step up for me. Others have said his recipes are simple to prepare, and that well may be for most Americans, but compared to what I'VE been cooking, the recipes call for more ingredients and more preparation. My kitchen is NOT well stocked, so inevitably when I cook from this book, I have to ask DH to pick up some spice or herb or SOMETHING from the store on his way home. That being said, the recipes are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS and are well worth any effort. Ingredients are combined in unexpected ways with fantastic results. There are several recipes I've made repeatedly, and they definitely get easier the more you do them.A+++++.

Nice! great naked flair!
One of his earlier books-Jamie O. makes cooking seem fun, his dishes reflect the "naked" concept-stripped down ingredients, imprecise but coherent directions (a handful of this, a dash of that, bash it up!)reliance on herbs, spices and the true flavor of foods. Some of the recipes are Brit-centric, meaning big hunks of meat, roasts, fish with eyeballs, but that is part of the experience too. I wouldn't cook all of these, but I also like his list of what to stock in the pantry to whip up a meal at a moment's notice.

Jamie Oliver's Best
Of all the Jamie Oliver cookbooks, this is my favorite. Its full of recipes that make you feel like a grown-up, but are wonderfully simple. His enthusiasm makes the recipes a fun read and the pictures will make your tummy talk. An added bonus is that my kids will eat anything that I make from this book. They love Jamie as much as I do. Naked Chef Takes Off is an essential primer for the inexperienced and the seasoned cook alike.

A wonderful book filled with innovative recipes and beautiful photography.
Everything from A to Z can be found in the pages of this gorgeous recipe book. From comfort food classics to unique and fresh cuisine. You can feel the passion this man has for food coming out of the pages. The recipes are easy to follow and sorted brilliantly. You can learn to make just about anything with this book.
