Thoroughly done - beautiful legible Devanagari rendition of the Upanishads, followed by informed and precise literal translation into English. Where deemed needed, an elaboration in English follows the translation. The print and paper quality is excellent.The precision of the translation renders this as a suitable introduction to the Upanishads for readers in English language. For the same reason it is suitable for a Sanskrit learner, able to read Devanagari.The full import of the ancient deliberations seems to be delivered thousands of years later.

Everything is excellent about this purchase! The Sanskrit texts (Slokas) with English Translation, style of presenting, readability, clarity, Text, font size, binding, and also the delivery. Exactly, I was looking for, with MINIMAL COMMENTARY, and Original Sanskrit Slokas with exact Translation in English. I have even verified the Sanskrit Text and the Translation with other books of Upanishads I have. Everything is right. I have other translated upanishads which are called Major and some minor that match this translation and Sanskrit Text. I was hesitant about this purchase from other reviews, but I am more impressed with this books. May God Bless the Team who worked on these Translation for all 112 - Upanishads. I give 5+ rating.

I thinks its excellent. Accurate translation . very much but what I've been waiting for. But I must say it should have had some pictures of Rishis, Gods, temples, etc. Should add relevant images. If I've said something innacurate, someone feel free please to elaborate it's true station.

Here you have the complete Sanskrit text (written in Sanskrit and not in roman letters) of all 112 Upanishads. A good and complete book.

A bit ambivalent about this. The overall quality of the publication is very good, but the English translation seems rather questionable - it is literally just word for word, without any regard for proper English grammatical construction or typical word usage, which makes the translation rather unreadable, and also makes it seem like it was done by some automatic program, like an early version of Google Translate. Now, I understand that the crudest possible word-for-word translation slightly reduces the likelihood of injecting the translator's personal interpretation into the text, but still, language is more than just a collection of isolated words. Proper grammar and sentence structure are important for conveying meaning in a comprehensible way, even if a proper, readable translation is impossible without the translator leaving a personal imprint upon it. Since the original Sanskrit text is included anyway, I think it would have been a better choice to translate more freely, using English grammar, English word order and customary English expressions, instead of just translating every word one at a time and without any regard for readability.

This book has a fairly good general introduction to the Upanishads, followed by 112 upanishads in Devanagiri Sanskrit script with English translation. The quality of paper, printing and the binding are quite good, particularly for an import. Note that it contains only a straight translation of the verses, without any added commentary, except for a few notes here and there. The translation mostly follows the Sanskrit verse's word-order, and has not been re-stated in standard English style, and so, it is not very lucid. At the beginning of each Upanishad, however, there is a short write-up in Standard English about that Upanishad. And. occasionally there are also a few inserted notes in Standard English. But, these write-ups in English contain many typographical as well as grammatical errors, making them a burdensome reading. This is in spite of the claim made in the book that this is a thoroughly revised edition of 2007. In my opinion it goes to show the poor standard of proof-reading and editing. This leads one to wonder as to how well the proof reading of the Sanskrit verses were carried out. I did, of course, check the Sanskrit text of one small principal Upanishad against another source, and did not find any discrepancy -- nonetheless, the errors in the English texts kept causing nagging suspicions in my mind. So, I wound up returning the book.At an organizational level, the pages of the book just have the Upanishad's name on top of each page for a header, without the chapter and the section number of that Upanishad. So, when you try to use this book as a desk reference, you can not orient yourself quickly inside some of the large Upanishads. It would have been nice if they had pre-fixed the chapter and the section number to the verse number, like for example "4.8.12".Some of the Upanishads (e.g. Isawashya ) I think are supposed have the 'swara' markings (intonation guide for reciting aloud). I don't remember noticing them in this book, but this is not a serious drawback.I also noticed that some of the 'shanthi patas' (invocation verses) have not been printed in full, when its occurrence is repeated from one Upanishad to another. The first and the last word of the verse alone are printed with ellipses in between. Since no reference is given as to where exactly it appeared for the first time, you have to depend on your own memory. I noticed this only with respect to the repeated invocation verses; this may not be so on any other repeated verse.I would not recommend this book, unless you are interested just in the Devanagiri Sanskrit text part alone, and willing to assume that it has been printed error-free. If only the English passages were proof-read carefully and corrected for typos and grammatical errors, this would have been a great reference book.

Two volumes of hard bound books, received in good condition. Altogether, 112 Upanishads are described. All the verses are written in Sanskrit/Devanagari, with their translation in English. There is a good introduction in the first volume about various Hindu texts and their six schools. There is a brief introduction of each Upanishad across each chapter. At the end of the book, there is an index of verses sorted in alphabetical order, so it is easy to find a verse. For these books to be meaningful, one should know to read Sanskrit/Devanagari script. A very good attempt by the author to translate all the verses to English.

Not a very faithful translation, but a great job of compiling the 112 upanishads in one place. Would have been great if it had a roman transliteration of the shlokas, but still a good purchase.
