I find this to be a handy reference that gives quick guidance on common grammar mistakes. Most people want quick and clear explanations and examples, and this book provides that. I already found useful the explanation of when to use "fewer" and "less". I teach English and I'd been going through tedious explanations to explain that you use "fewer" for what you can count, such as for "people" and not for mass nouns, such as "money". But with "money" I then had to explain that you say, "less money" and "fewer dollars" and that yes, you can count money...and so on. Thurman's explanation is simple and direct: "Use 'fewer' to describe plural words; use 'less' to describe singular words." I think this will be a much easier guideline for me to give my students. This is a quick and concise guide that will answer most of your questions. Easy to use as a reference and a great guide for impatient college students or people who want to learn to speak English.

I'd have given five stars if my confidence in the book wasn't so quickly smashed when I spotted a grammatical error so early on in the book. Mind you, it's a common error. The book reads "... never truly sunk in..." when it should have been "...never truly sank in...". It's on the first page on the Introduction. Beyond that, the book seems pretty good. The descriptions are easy to understand, and it starts out easy so you can cover the easy stuff first, then wade slowly into the tougher material. Nice, easy to use book at a great price. Excellent for spot-reading, too. So keep it in your car for those long waits by the ferry or serious traffic jams.

I'm by no means an expert grammarist, and will gladly make up words like grammarist all willy-nilly, but after I read The Only Grammar Book You'll Ever Need by Susan Thurman I saw an immediate improvement in my writing. I'm seriously glad I read through it before I decided to publish because I would be wallowing in mortification about my extra-long sentences now. There might be better grammar books out there and all sorts of free tips and editing software like Grammarly and Ginger (both which I love and use daily), but I highly recommend checking out The Only Grammar Book You'll Ever Need. It's less than 200 pages, has a quick reference guide for all of your grammar needs, links to helpful websites to improve your writing, and - surprise, surprise - it's written well and gets right to the point.

This is the first grammar book that I actually read all the way through. Prior to this, I didn't even know what adverbs or conjunctions are. I had an English teacher say my writing is perfect. Off course it's not, but I was happy because it's my first time receiving such compliment. I learned from this book that English is actually easy and pleasant to learn if you have a great teacher like Susan Thurman. I can't remember struggling at all, and I actually had a pleasant time. So I recommend this book fellow ESL who want to brush up their grammar for their career or personal benefits. After this book, if you like to improve your grammar to the next level, there are other simple, direct, and fun books I recommend: The Blue Book of Grammar by Jane Strauss and Beyond Prepositions by Thomas Celentano. The Blue Book has lots of rules not covered in Thurman's book (and vice versa). Thurman's and Strauss' books compliment each other. But these two books don't cover the actual prepositions because you'd need about 100-200 pages for it. Just like the two grammar books I mentioned, Celentano's Beyond Preposition is simple, easy, and pleasant to read.

a very comprehensive coverage of the twists and turns of English Grammar, but more suited to some one who already has some background knowledge. For instance, one must know the grammatical names for all the parts of speech to fully understand the explanations. With this proviso,though ti is an excellent resource for any serious writer.

The title of the book indicates that this is a book about grammar and usage that is approached with gentleness. That is, not your textbook approach to grammar that is overfilled with exercises. Rather. author Susan Thurman presents the rules of grammar and usage in a straightforward way with examples. "The Only Grammar Book You'll Ever Need" is at a middle school level of comprehension. I think it would make a great alternative to a grammar textbook. Is this really the "only" grammar book you will ever need? I wouldn't go that far. There are too many wonderful grammar and usage book available to make Susan's the only one. But this book is, indeed, one that you can benefit from. I am very glad I ordered this book. It's packed with great information but it doesn't overwhelm with details. There are lots of examples that make the "rule" easy to understand. I write and edit for a living, so having the best tools when I need help is important. I have grammar texts, but finding what I need in them takes too much time. For a fast, easy reference guide, pick this one. You won't be sorry.

This is an Unique English Grammar Book for School as well as College Students.

As to the bookseller, no complaints: the book arrived promptly and in good condition. As to the book's contents, that awaits a read.

This book isn't an English textbook, it's really more of a review. That said it is helpful, concise, and clear. If you want to review academic English, it's a good source for you!
