This is a great product though it is available for 1/2 the Amazon price at you local stores. Amazon should be more competitive.

Smells and tastes like alcohol. I don't know, maybe it fermented in transit. But it's doesn't taste like a protein shake. It's like a drink you'd get at a bar or a liqueur from a liquor store.

I was so glad to find this product (although I have not bought it through Amazon yet). I have a drink fast once a week and if I dont get enough protein, I get very shakey so I was drinking protein smoothies to supplement. The problem is that name brands like Naked or Bolthouse Farms has 50+ grams of sugar in almost all their beverages. I can't find any other brands with less that 25 grams of sugar per bottle. After drinking just one of those I feel sick. They are also loaded with calories. Koia brand only has 4 grams of sugar, 190 calories, 70 from fat. This is way better than everything else that I have found. I have tried cocoa, vanilla, coffee, and cinnamon and they are all good. There may be a slight aftertaste but compared to the other brands, I will take the slight aftertaste. There is no soy, it is make from other natural proteins like almond, rice, etc and it is possible that the high sodium content may be what is giving the aftertaste (240mg of sodium). Sodium isn't a problem for me but it may be for others so that is why I am mentioning it. For me, it is worth the extra money per bottle to avoid a sugar coma. I would consider buying them from here if they sold a multi-flavor package. (I dont want to only have the chocolate all day.)

In spite of the higher sodium content - which is a little ridiculous - 300 mg's?? I like this drink. The sugars are low, as well as the carbs and the chocolate brownie and cacao, as well as the coconut almond taste good. It is sweetened with monkfruit, which can cause a tummy rumble or two. Some have complained about the 'gritty' mouth feel but I like that. My only gripe is the cost of the stuff through Amazon. Some of the pricing has these bottles going for $15.99 a pop. Really? $15.99 for one small 12oz bottle of protein drink?? In Whole Foods, they're ridiculously priced at 5.99 to 7.99 a bottle, but even there you won't find them at $15.99! Try them, but shop around and do the math.
