The best, most long-last umbrella I have ever owned.
I purchase this umbrella about a year and a half ago, and after using it in a torrential downpour last night, felt compelled to write a review for this fantastic item.In the eighteen months I have owned this umbrella, it has kept me dry in countless rainstorms in New York, including ones with significant wind gusts (such as those found in the wind tunnels that form between the city's skyscrapers). Not once has the canopy or the aluminum supports failed, even as I've watched those around me ditch their crumpled, destroyed umbrellas in sidewalk trash cans. This is especially amazing given how big this umbrella is, canopy-wise. It really is golf-umbrella sized, and as a 6'3'' person, it keeps me fully dry from the knees up in "raining sideways" storms, and fully dry in "vertical" rainstorms. Despite its impressive reach, it still folds down to a very compact size - bit slimmer than the 17oz S'well bottle I keep in the other side pocked of my backpack. The included sleeve is also very nice for storing the umbrella, wet or not.And finally, I'll mention the opening and closing mechanism. It is so great to be able to pop it open with one click, and not have to worry about fighting a slider to push up the canopy. Moreover, as you're approaching your destination, it is quite easy to click the button again just as you open the door, and have the canopy collapse down. No more fighting to close an umbrella outside, resulting in you being as wet as you would have been had you not had an umbrella at all, just before getting to you destination. A quick click of the Totes, and you can walk in easily, staying dry throughout.

Great tough and portable golf-size umbrella, but a little prone to flipping
Great umbrella for when you need something that provides a lot of coverage but packs up in a portable package. I decided to buy this since my city gets pretty windy when it rains, so smaller umbrellas were just leaving my pants entirely soaked. At the same time, I needed something a little more portable since I like to carry my umbrella in my bag whenever the forecast suggests it might rain. This umbrella fairs perfectly in the "stopping water from touching you from above" category, as do most other umbrellas. This one has the significant advantage of being huge and being able to cover you, your personal items/bags, and one other person and their belongings comfortably. In fact, you can easily squeeze three people under it and not get wet if you don't have any belongings. You get all that coverage AND it packs up into the size of a regular small folding umbrella. However, since it's that large and folds, it's a little weak when it comes to wind. I often feel it moving in my hands when I'm walking in wind, and anything more than 10-15 mph winds will be hard to hold it up straight in. So far, I've had it flip inside-out 4 times, so I have to admit that it's not the greatest umbrella to bring out on a windy day. However, I have to admit that I've never had an umbrella collapse on me 4 times and still keep working. Perfectly. Without any issues. Even the auto open/close. So it's tough. Buy this, but not if your city is very windy.

Large umbrella that folds down to a nice size
This umbrella is great, I am a tall guy and small umbrellas just don't cut it for me but this is large enough to comfortably fit myself and another without getting wet. The construction on this is also great and it comes with a lifetime warranty against defects. I used it in moderate winds and it didn't budge. Another great thing is how compact it gets, about 14 inches long which sounds long but for a canopy this large its great. The button to collapse the umbrella is slightly recessed so it isn't much of a worry that you will hit it when you are holding it. Also for the first time ever an umbrella I have folds back to the size it was when I got it, the thing actually fits back into the nice nylon carrying pouch that came with it. This nylon pouch is nice for when you go in somewhere and need to put away the umbrella, it seems to be waterproof as well and doesn't really leak water.

Not robust enough for occasional use
The performance of this umbrella has not held up to occasional and careful use over the last 2 months. Careful opening and closing has still resulted in a broken support strut (see image). Disappointed it hasn't lasted longer than 2 months before breaking.

Quality has badly suffered since I last bought one of these
I'm very disappointed in this umbrella. I bought one in 2014 and was very satisfied with it. Good quality fabric, sturdy ribs, stood up to Chicago wind. Unfortunately, when it came time to replace it, buying the same catalog item was a mistake. The fabric is noticeably thinner, as are the ribs. The strap holding the fabric closed is supposed to attach with velcro. That won't work on this one, the workmanship is so shoddy the velcro will tear off the first time I attempt to use it, unless I re-sew it first. Buying something that needs repair before it can be used is annoying to say the lease. Unfortunately, its almost as much trouble to return it as it would be to fix it.Not Recommended.

Slippery handle
Have been buying totes umbrellas for many many years. Needed a couple of extra large ones so got two of these. I find the handle material on these to be much more slippery than every other kind of Totes umbrella I currently or have ever previously owned. It's somewhat annoying. I might try to coat the handle with a layer of glue or maybe wrap some paracord around it or something like that.Edit: I am reducing a star. The handle material is just too slippery. As I stated above, it has less grip than my dozen or so prior Totes umbrellas. It is not possible to wrap the handle with paracord - it is too slippery a handle and the taper prevents a good paracord wrap. Similarly, it is not possible to wrap with hockey tape. A thin layer of gorilla glue helps. But the bottom line is that sadly I will need to find a new brand of umbrella to buy.

Nice size.Definitely keeps the rain off.Joints sound a bit loose though. Haven't had blowing wind to try it out yet, but I think it'll do the job. Opens, closes
Arrived alive. Keeps the water off. Haven't had it out in a trading storm but I'm happy with it as my office umbrella.

Totes umbrella
Nice product with nice color combination. I like the opening and closing mechanism which is automatic and make it easy when entering or leaving a covered please in the rain. the size and weight are the only small issue but it is not a problem when you carry it in your backpack.
