Hug Time

This is one of my favorite children’s books. I work as a nanny and give it as a gift to each new child when I start caring for them. The story is sweet and simple, the flow of the words doesn’t get irritating and the artwork is adorable. This book is a great choice if you are looking for a story with a sweet meaning, with just the right length and great artwork.

I love to give books to new mommies and build their libraries. One of the most important things to so is to read to your children daily. I love this story.

One of our favorite board books of all time. I buy a copy for every baby shower I attend. This arrived in great shape and on time.

Wag was brief and lovely...Hug time is a little longer and more thoroughly steeps you into a warm and delightful story. The only knock on Hug Time, is that it suffers from a cliche title but it soars to great heights with simple, understandable and universal emotion on the pages. The cat wants to hug everyone in the world so he puts on his sweater and gets to it. If you don't want to hug your kids at the end of this book your veins run cold! This is a brilliant expression of childlike sentiment and spot on joy. The words are simple and lovely. The drawings are equally simple and very accessible. If you add it to your library it will likely be a book that your little one will take with them to college.

This board book version of Patrick McDonnell's contemporary classic is perfect for young readers. It fits easily into a coat pocket or purse. The cut-out cover will attract the youngest children. It's durable, which, I imagine, is a concern for moms and dads who are worried whether this edition will carry their young one through his...her preschool years. The rhyme isn't perfect, but it's memorable. This is a story I now share at least once a year at my elementary school and at various times throughout the year elsewhere in my travels as a volunteer reader/storyteller. The message about spreading love is universal. With so much negativity in the world today, if we (all of us!) simply embraced McDonnell's message we'd have a much better planet.

My wife and I have been reading Hug Time to our daughter almost every night since she was 3 months old when we received it as a gift, it's become part of the bedtime ritual. The story is very cute and easy -- my wife and I both have the entire book memorized and our daughter likes to turn the pages as we go through the story, . My one wish is that there was a board book as well as one with paper pages, with a one-year-old sometimes rushing through the pages and getting ahold of the book on her own to try and "read" on her own, some of the pages are getting pretty worn: many are folded or scrunched, and the climax of the North Pole part has been ripped out completely. I'm torn between buying another copy when she's learned to treat books with respect or continuing to use this copy that's been so "well-loved."

We were gifted this book when our first baby was born and since has been our favorite. We have now gifted this book to many others as well. A special book teaching the power of care and a hug.

Such a precious book! I was brought to tears when I initially flipped through it in the book store. The art style is darling and Jules has always been my favorite Mutts character. I love how the pages are tinted, it adds a nice warmth to the book. Glad I bought it used, however, as I purchased this book for my at-the-time boyfriend. I discovered a few days after that he'd been unfaithful. Either way, this is a comforting and sweet book. It help me a ton. :)

read it every night and there is a little heart cut out in the front - so you can smooch through it :) great lesson and fab drawings.

I love this little book and it's author! It is a children's book, but certainly can be enjoyed and appreciated by adults. I have given it as a gift to a number of friends over the years. Especially at a time when we are missing the hugs of family and friends, this little book holds a message that is heart-warming and comforting.
