Rosanna of the Amish

A book with great detail on some aspects of Amish life.
A fine book about Amish life, however, the writing style became tedious. Everything Rosanna did was perfect, her life was perfect. The only book I have read where I kept checking the bottom of the Kindle page to see how much longer the book continued. Of all the many books on my ancestors that I have read, not one ever mentioned the Amish healing practice of powwowing, or the laying on of hands, as far as I can tell from how the author described it. Maybe that practice is confined to the area where this story takes place. I am glad I read this book, but more glad that it is finished.

Best amish memoir account I've read so far.
With the Amish being so exclusive, it's so nice to read an intimate account of the amish from the amish point of view. and the point of a view of a happy amish person at that. There are many accounts of the amish leaving for various issues and reasons and that can often portray the amish poorly. Yes, the amish are people like the rest of us, and are not perfect. but close to 90% (guestimated numbers) of the people stay amish. which makes me believe there is truly something to it that is very fulfilling on a personal level. And this book captures that. This story is so unique in that it tells of Irish immigrants that befriend the Amish and the unique circumstances in which the Amish woman then raises the young baby. I was a bit reluctant to read a story that was originally written in the 1940's. But it was surprisingly very relevant (seeing as the Amish truly haven't changed that much). And very intriguing to read of the aspects that were unique to the era of the story as well. While the writing is mostly very simple (reflective of the simple way of amish life and their typical speech), it is not at all antiquated in language or form. The book genuinely captures the feelings and emotions of Rosanna and her mother. The relationship with her husband and children. and the challenges of amish life.Having read many other memoirs and accounts on the Amish, I feel that this book is very true accurate in its portrayal of Rosanna and her Amish upbringing. I was surprised at how much of her life and the various stages were represented in this book. the book seems to immerse the reader into the amish lifestyle and it's just a wonderful experience.Truly and amazing story. very easy to read. very touching. so happy that this book is still in print.

Rosanna of the Amish,is a historical record of a young Irish girl and how she was adopted into an Amish home.Written by her son Joseph. The story goes through each phase of Rosanna's l amazing life, from a baby and young life, and then into adulthood and her eventual death. It often includes intricate details about the Amish and their ways. The Amish Lifestyle
A fascinating introduction to the Amish way of life. It did get a little sugar coated near the end, but all in all, it was a fascinating read.
