YES, this can be used on canning jars, but you need canning jar adapters. Look for Food Saver Wide Mouth and Regular Mouth canning jar sealers here on Amazon. All you need to do is use the Unit right over the hole on the canning jar sealers, no tubing necessary. NOTE: this does not replace pressure or heat canning for perishable items, but works well for preserving dried foods and extends the life of foods stored in the refrigerator or freezer.

Q: can this one be used for making pickles with Regular and wide mouth Jar Sealer?

It will vacuum seal a mason jar lid if you use it in conjunction with the FoodSaver Wide Mouth Jar Sealer attachment which is about $10. See Salad in a Jar video on youtube.

Q: ist work on 220 v electricity?

Its work on 220v, I bought one and use in overseas (outside US) and the adaptor write 110-240v & 50/60 Hz. My country electricity 220v and its work well.

Q: Does it seal by melting at all?

I see three conflicting answers. Having just started using this and the special bags, I can tell you my observation (on this old thread): 1. You need the special zip lock bags with a valved opening. 2. You just place the suction opening against the circular valve - Don't remove any "sticker." 3. You don't heat seal these bags, but rely on the zip lock to seal the top and the valve to block the vent hole. These will not be as good a regular bags that are sealed by heat, but they are quicker and easier to use, without the need for bulky equipment.
