Scans quickly and requires almost no setup (depending on operating system)
This device is very fast and requires almost no setup. On a Windows XP machine all I had to do was tell it to automatically find drivers when the popup came up, and within minutes it was working. The device automatically hits ENTER after finishing the swipe, which should be customizable if you contact the seller and ask for the software. When I say "fast", I mean it takes less than a quarter of a second for the entire line to be entered. Huge performance increase over the old one I used that took around 2 to 3 seconds using a PS/2 port. When you get this, you'll have to mount it somewhere. Go buy a Velcro strip at the hardware store for a few dollars, and stick one side to the swiper, and another side to the monitor or keyboard or other place you want it to be held.

Failed after a couple of months, unable to return
I bought this item slightly over six months ago. After 2 months it stopped working- we tried everything trying to get it to work, we assumed it was the POS system but it actually turned out to be the reader had failed. I finally got around to returning and asking for a replacement and was refused with the reason "out of return period". I see others have had the unit fail shortly after purchase too. This thing is a piece of junk and the seller isn't interested in "making it right".

fast shipping! received on 7-14 and went bad as of today 8-16. well update to let everyone know how warranty works.

A good card reader
This stripe is fine for normal use. For better or worse, it does have a long cord...nice for convenience, but some computers have trouble reading the stripe with the longer cord. Overall, I've always been able to make it work, even if not right away. It is small, compact, and does what it should. Nice!

Works perfectly, easy install.
I purchased this is 2012 through Amazon and so far it's worked brilliantly... easy to install, reads cards effortlessly. We use this on a Window 7 Dell Optiplex 390.

It never worked. I worked with IT people to make it work. I would not recommend it. Don't buy. I had to buy another device.

Other than having to switch the device into keyboard mode, it works well. We have not had any problems since changing the mode.
