Q: How safe is this grab bar inside the shower? Without grips on the back or a textured surface, do your hands slip when grabbing the bar?

No slipping. We don’t use it much, installed for future potential need. I would say it’s a great size to wrap hand around and grip. Personally I wouldn’t think a “textured “ surface would benefit at all. Either you have the strength to hold on or not regardless of age.
