eBook Omits All Map Images
PLEASE NOTE: This review pertains exclusively to the eBook version of this publication. The eBook completely omits the many fantastic tactical maps found in the physical version of this book, presumably because they take up entire pages and would need to be condensed into three or more digital pages in the eBook, so the editors just ditched them. The textual information in this book cannot be properly understood without the illustrated context of these maps. The other images are also disappointingly low-resolution. Don't waste your money on this eBook.

Star Wars Ultimate Guide to Warfare. Creation of the Republic.
Incredible backstory to the Star Wars universe. In addition to the violent days of the galaxy before the Republic, to those uncertain days of the Early Republic, there has been a rich history fleshed out to give life to the worlds of the Core, to the Outer Rim, to Hutt Space and all the worlds in between. In this masterful work the hows and whys of cutting edge technologies, the complexities of inter-space travel are illustrated. In addition to different personalities, orders and followers of The Force(Jedi and Sith) and civilizations and species that have contributed each in their own unique way to the evolution and formation of the Republic and galaxy. Chronicled are the growing pains faced by every generation of Republic leadership. On several occasions the reader will notice that the Republic was in immanent danger of imploding due to poor choices made by Republic ruling parties, on these occasions the citizenry were lucky to count on the Jedi Order to rescue and/or correct the sinking ship. This is an amazing read which will give incredible depth to the Star Wars universe for the fan who craves "a little more" as well as those who wonder how it all came to be and where it might be going. It seems to me that it is not unlike our own galaxy. It is a living breathing thing, constantly in motion, ever changing, evolving, and adapting. One thing is for sure and those who provide insight into this universe provide that war is a constant, and like in our own existence one day it may be the end of us.

Not quite what I expected
I was expecting a guide to wars and how wars were fought in Star Wars, and that just not what this book is. More accurately its a general history of the Star Wars universe through the lens of major conflicts, many of which are only mentioned. Its also rather thin on those conflicts. Its also the universe circa 2012, so unfortunately half of the book is not obsolete due to Eps 7 & 8.

Really great! reads like a "history textbook"
This book goes over the entire legends time line from a military point of view, showing ships and military officers throughout the entire time line, great pictures and has a lot of tid-bits. I recommend reading the sections of these books after reading the source material behind it OR if you want to skip a certain book series ( like the new Jedi order series for me ) then this gives a good overviewI recommend this but know that it's (1) legends and (2) works best alongside the original books from which it was sourced

Great Source
A fantastic sourcebook to get a feel for how a certain galaxy far, far away has functioned throughout its history, The Essential Guide To Warfare can teach you a little about a great many topics... or at least it would if Darth Mickey hadn't taken a super laser to decades of canon.

Awesome
A lovable guide to Star Wars eras, a guide to many stuff not only weapons. Also is good as history book that has very big timeline of events from earlier galaxy life to the future. Awesome

A must for Star Wars fans!
Packed with great artwork, interesting facts and in-universe entries, the Essential Guide to Warfare is a must-have for any Star Wars fan's reference collection. Well-researched and written, with entries highlighting little-known aspects of the saga, along with details surrounding the Galactic Civil War that the casual fan may not expect, this book will keep you entertained. Particularly useful for fanfiction writers who like to get their details correct, and an overall nice addition to one's shelf.

A Must-Read for Clone Wars and Rep Comm Fans
Although no longer canon, this is a very helpful guide to understanding the structure (and history) of the various galactic militaries across the ages. There is such a dearth of canon information about the bureaucracy, logistics, and organization of Grand Army of the Republic that this is honestly the best resource if you're looking to model RPG campaigns or write in-universe campaign histories -- most of it can be reconciled to or cross-referenced with current canon (if only because there's nothing out there to say otherwise) and where it can't, well, there some great in-universe stories and accounts, solid information about various technologies (best explanation of shield properties I've ever read), and really cool aartwork in here to make it worthwhile. Put simply, even if it's outdated, it's an excellent resource for adding military texture to one's understanding of the GFFA. Highly recommended.

Good companion But
This a good idea and it is well done however it is incomplete missing the final 2 books including Wraith book in addittion the conclusion of the Star Wars: Legacy story is missing ok time and the update a reprint would alow will fix that but what cant be fixed is the lots and lots of every thing pre episode 3 not the same detail post episode 3 think marithon then 100 meters and again bit too much jedi not enugh every body else it is wel written laid out print and pics small (pity as they look good) it makes sense as a story and will sit well with those collections that lack the Star WARS encyclopedias

Good, but not quite the book I was looking for.
This is a good book but, for me at least, it could have been a great book. The iconic Stormtrooper image on the front cover was what initially caught my eye - I'm a sucker for anything Trooper related, but although they are mentioned, they are not given the coverage they deserve and the information about them was not new to me.That said, there is much in this book about the Star Wars universe that I did not know, especially about what happened after ROTJ, so for that reason I give it 4 stars.

Buy this over a cinema ticket
One of the greatest Star Wars books of all time. Combines detailed information on military structuring (hierarchy, ranks et cetera) and equipment, historical wars and campaigns, politics, as well as detailed stories on famous characters. Absolutely worth reading.

So many of these books are rehashes of the same ...
So many of these books are rehashes of the same old stuff, mostly derived straight from the movies - but this has stacks of really interesting info in it. Even a hard core Star Wars fan is going to find gems in here they didn't know. It's well written, well put together and varied enough to hold the attention.
