Organizing from the Inside Out with Julie Morgenstern

I've read a lot of organizational books and have typically come away with the feeling that so many organizational systems are extremely rigid and demand that you work with someone else's way of doing things.THIS SYSTEM IS DIFFERENT!I appreciated that this system works around how YOU work. It truly is one of the simplest to understand and straightforward in its approach. It can be specific and complex IF IT NEEDS TO BE, but you don't have to START with a complex system.Honestly, this is the only system I've seen where you can watch the hour video and immediately apply it.Note: I DID also purchase the book to help with those complex questions, and it was very helpful for those. But for just getting going, watch the video and be quickly equipped to get a chunk done.Highly recommended.

This video is a very enjoyable and effective summary of the method to organize described in the corresponding book. It does a far better job at that than the book because the book has the method burried in 250 pages of advices that are not as essential as the method. The author herslef is the host in a studio using before/after pictures and videos of places she organized. The method consists of A)Analyze; B) Strategize; C)Attack. To Analyze one must ask what is causing the clutter, what is working, what is not working, what items are most essential. To strategize one must devide the room into activity zones and store items at the point of use. Finally one must attack the SPACE by Sorting, Purging, Assigning a home for objects, Containerizing and Equalizing.Before you tackle a major organization project it is better to spend the 1 hour or so watching this video than reading the book. You will be immediately ready to organize instead of being paralyzed with so much written advice.

Helpful ideas also for people living in small houses.Most houses have linen closets - not my little house ~~Most houses have a utility closet in or near kitchen for broom - buckets - ironing board, etc - not my little house ~~you get my point ! Thanks Julie !

It's much easier than reading a book. Ms. Morgenstern tells how organizing is a learnable skill (she's living proof), helps realize the time and money savings involved, and provides a realistic and workable approach to getting things done. She's right; when you do something like organize an area, it becomes very empowering. I've had to watch almost annually.

I bought the book several months ago, flipped through it, and had been meaning to read it since then. My house is so cluttered that I felt I didn't have time to read it, and half the time, I couldn't even find the book. When I saw that Julie had published a video version of her book, I thought that I could set aside that much time one afternoon to watch the video. It actually took 3 segments of time to watch it due to two toddlers and my husband, but I watched it and was inspired. I think I learned everything I need to from the video, although the book includes more details. I think it's easier to get started just with the basics than to be overwhelmed with information, anyway. I actually learned information that I can use this time, and what's more, I'm putting it to use! I highly recommend this video. Also, Julie Morgenstern is really likeable, so it's fun and inspiring to see her on video.

Julie's presentation is wonderful. It is very encouraging to know that someone as naturally disorganized as Julie started in life can become organized and efficient. Shared this video with my brother who was equally impressed. Has made a big difference in our lives.

Most motivating dvd...I like to play this while I organize, like having a friend over to help motivate and inspire. Her sense of humor and kind demeanor are wonderful. Love the before and after photos and would love to see more of those, and have the program last longer!

Great video

I am very pleased I bought this. It has really helped kickstart my 2013 declutter resolution. It's early days yet but I have already bigger changes getting years' old clutter 3 weeks into January than I did in the whole of 2012 (when I was working on decluttering)! She explains her ideas very clearly. She is non judgemental. I love her paradoxical idea that organising/decluttering is not about throwing things out. Go figure! She has a great system of questions you need to ask yourself before you tackle your stuff. Just answering her questions on paper has really helped to clarify the changes I want to make in my home - AND MAKE CHANGES. Buy it!!
