The Science of the Sacred: Bridging Global Indigenous Medicine Systems and Modern Scientific Principles

Well written
If there is a criticism at all about this book, it would be that there is a need for this book in the first place. Why is it that medical doctors should consider earth ways, culture, Spirit, language, and culture of Native Americans, when learning allopathic medicine, instead of learning these things right along with allopathic medicine in school and internship? Well, for one thing, most doctors aren't Native Americans, have never learned a Native language, weren't raised in a tribal community, and just aren't exposed to things in a different way of thinking. Until that time, this book will have to do. A footnote to this review is that more Native Americans went off to medical schools this past year than ever before.

Honoring BOTH Science and Traditional Medicine
This book is a breath of fresh air in the tangled and sometimes divisive world of healthcare. The author's wide knowledge and experience is impressive. I plan to read it a second time to let more really sink in. As a PhD physicist myself, I was delighted to see her start with physics -- in a way that is quite readable. Then she progresses thru genetics, biochemistry, physiology, biomechanics, diet, microbiology(gut microbes), psychology, the healing power of nature, astronomy(we are all stardust), ending with an integration of all this. Many footnotes, a bibliography, and suggested reading complete this far ranging tour-de-force. I especially liked how she ended each chapter with a paragraph that summarized that chapter.

A great reminder of what we shouldn't forget!
This book is succinct but very impactful in its telling of how indigenous science should not be ignored and can be married with modern science in order to seek out the proper treatments for people. But this book isn't really a "how to" book with instructions or remedies. It is more of a reminder that we shouldn't dismiss things because they were around a long time ago. There is a lot of knowledge but within that knowledge there is a lot of wisdom and this book highlights how that wisdom was cultivated and passed down within some Indigenous communities. I was most surprised by our present model of treating mental health vs. how it is managed in other cultures. I was also humbled by a feature that is virtually lost in modern society, which is Elders passing down knowledge to future generations. The description of the Elders and their role and how they acquired knowledge is fascinating and important for everyone to be aware of. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone as it is a great read that will change your perspective on medicine, science, the world and hopefully yourself as well!!

Mind-blowing; a different perspective and approach
This book was mind-blowing for me, and I recommend it for anyone who likes the healing sciences. The author writes from the point of view of having been raised in the indigenous wisdom traditions of the Dene people, and who also has been trained as a physician and specializes in the integrative healing arts. Her life experience brings a special voice to Western medicine. There are sciences sometimes just being discovered are understood but make sense of traditional healing methods that seem to have taken root in multiple cultures around the world.I recommend this for anyone who is interested in the esoteric and science. The science in this book is sometimes becomes a bit complex, and I'm glad that I had a good education in microbiology and A&P before reading this, the overall I think it is accessible yo most likely people who loves science.Be prepared to read this book and small chunks, not because it's dry or boring, but for me at least oh, there were a lot of aha moments that I simply needed to stop and think about. This is one of the best science titles that I have had the privilege of reading in the last year.

Excellently Researched Book On Naturopathic Native American Medicine and Epigenetics For Healing
This is a very well-researched book by author and naturopathic doctor, Nicole Redvers. The sources are very well-cited with good peer-reviewed sources and books of holistic and traditional Native American medicines, as well and including a lot of current information in the fields of epigenetics and quantum physics. I found this to be an excellent source of information on naturopathic and indigenous medicine practices from around the world balanced by modern scientific research. With lengthy chapters on naturopathic physics, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, biomechanics, dietary, psychology, naturalism, astronomy, and integration, this book covers a wide variety of scientific wellness subjects in the light of holistic and indigenous medicines.I enjoyed reading this book and learning more about epigenetics, holistic and indigenous medicine practices, and ways to integrate that into overall well-being. Highly recommended!

Must Read!
This book is a MUST READ for everyone interested in how to protect themselves and the earth by being open to healing techniques and medicines from all corners of the earth.Reviving ancient traditional healing knowledge and combining that to present day healing science was entertaining and mind-opening to me as the reader.Redvers does an excellent job of keeping my interest while I read her chapters beginning with the impact of the smallest particles in the world to the vast stars in the universe that impact our lives at the molecular levels to the cosmic levels. I plan to re-read this book again to gain more insights into mankind's existence and how to maximize our lives on a fulfilling and healthy journey of living.
