**Q: How long do these roller kits typically last?**
A: 100k pages with normal paper. Heavy, textured, dirty, and rough paper will shorten their life. Look for rubber rejuvinator to prolong the life. However, when you get to the end of their life the tread will begin to wear off just like a tire. These rollers look and feel like a cat's tongue when new.

**Q: Are the replacement rollers easily replaced by the user?  Do they come with directions about how to get the original ones out and the new ones in?**
A: Hi, I found a video in Youtube on how to replace the rollers.  I don't remember if it came with instructions.  Following the video it was easy to replace the rollers.  Just be careful  in opening the different panels/doors to pull out the rollers.

If you scan a lot of pages having these on had is a must. They will allow less jamming, build up and stopping of the machine. However of the three rollers you only need to replace the retard roller (yellow) this has a texture like a cats tongue and when they get old they get slick and smooth. This roller acts like a skid roller to keep back the next sheet while the pickup roller pulls in the top sheet from the stack. These remaining gray rollers can last for several hundred of thousands of pages versus the yellow. Take it from me, I've done scanning for almost 10 years and there is no way around getting the Yellow Rollers only. The closest I've come is by roughing the old one with a fine grit sandpaper to extend the life for a few more weeks.
