Quality Bits at DIY Price
These are superior bits, and fit my driver & impact drill quick-bit feature perfectly. I've only used the bits twice, but each time they stayed spot-on, and got thru quickly. I'm a happy purchaser, and feel my money was well-spent.

Review: Irwin Black and Gold Drill Bits Exec Summary: Excellent drill bits, good selection, solid and helpful carrying case!
In my opinion, Irwin has become a go-to company for making quality products. Their brands include well-known and well-respected names like Vice-Grip, Speedbore, Strait-Line and Unibit (among others) but with the Irwin name on their blue packages, the quality itself is assured. They make lots of different tools, from saw blades to pliers to wrenches, clamps....and drill bits. In many ways, they are like Craftsman used to be (as described to me by my dad back in the day), high quality products, high quality. These drill bits are exceptional. Hard, straight and sharp, they cut through wood and plastic like they're cutting through air. Their ends are solid hexagonal heads for fitting into most standard drills with minimal turns and maximum torque leverage in a drill or impact driver. The bits come in 10 different sizes with the sizes in standard inches and metric mm clearly marked and identified. The sizes are also on the bits themselves (that's handy!). The smallest of the drill bits are 1/4" (would have liked smaller, but for the professional, these are all they really need) According to the website, they are premium high speed steel with a black oxide finish to resist corrosion.I tested the bits a couple of different ways. First, I used a 3/8" thick piece of plywood (rough dimension, it was 1/2" plywood but when is that ever the right size?) and the thickest and thinnest drill bits popped right through. That I would have expected out of any drill bit. Then I took a thick chuck of pine (soft) and buried both bits in them. No smoking, no slowdown and they ate right in at about the same speed. Last, I took the hard scrap of oak that I had, a gnarly piece that if thrown in a fire would have cooked for an hour at least) and buried the bits in those. Not only was the speed indistinguishable from each other, they were indistinguishable from the other two test. There was no smoking, the bits were warm, not hot, after the tests and they held color and sharpness. I ran that same test five times on that oak and there was no loss of speed or ease. The tips also did not walk away from the initial hole, a characteristic I've experienced in less expensive bits. The final note is that the drill bits come in a very solid blue case, one that can last a good long time, take some abuse and whose markings (size in inches and mms) will help the craftsman, whether a pro or an amateur. All in all, if you are looking for bits like these, I recommend these wholeheartedly. You will not be disappointed.

The Irwin drill bits for the impact driver are very high-quality and worth investing in ...
One thing I've always toted around in my tool belt was a nail starter. These Irwin bits are 135° self-centering and won't unexpectedly travel when you least expect it. There's an almost imperceptible nib at the tip of each bit that acts as a starter. The black oxide finish not only makes the Irwin drill bits corrosion-resistant, but also the chips move out of the wood quickly and smoothly. The gold oxide tips, which are infinitely better than the uncoated drill bit tips, will move much faster through wood. The Irwin drill bits are a high-speed, high-quality drill bit set that is perfect if you're a pro, but also a great investment for someone who is either setting up or upgrading tools in the workshop. Why buy junkers?FEATURES:► Built for maximum durability and long life with impact drivers► One-piece construction withstands higher torque loads than standard quick-change bits► Exclusive TURBOMAX tip eliminates "walking," delivers 10X faster starts, and stays sharp longer► Made from premium high speed steel with black oxide finish for added corrosion-resistance► Manufactured with heavy-duty, cold-forged, high-grade steel to withstand high torque outputThe cold-forging process is what allows for high-impact work, especially on a continued day-to-day basis. These are hex-shanked driver bits I'll be using with my impact driver, another tool that I really should upgrade. Not to be dismissed, I definitely like the case that Irwin has provided.I lost a drill bit last summer because it simply fell out of the case which house a drill. The hex-shaped bits can easily be pulled forward to work with and are labeled in both inches and millimeters. The case has a sliding lock so it won't accidentally flip open. The plastic is a high-impact one and definitely will protect the investment. If you have an impact driver, you may as well invest in some decent drill bits.
