The latest and last of 2018's Grateful Dead’s long running live archival series, Dave’s Picks captures the band’s performance at Passaic NJ's storied Capitol Theatre. The date of this recording was June 17, 1976. As with previous releases this set is limited and numbered. Only 18,000 were manufactured. The sound reproduction is in HDCD. Jeffrey Norman engineered this recording. This show (The first of a three night stand) was part of 1976's "Comeback Tour" and featured the return of Mickey Hart. Peak performance of the suites “Help On The Way”/”Slipknot!”/”Franklin’s Tower” and “Lazy Lightning”/”Supplication” and a standout threesome of “Let It Grow” > “Wharf Rat” > “Around & Around” Are just a few of what will make this set a series essential. The third disc adds tracks from June 23, 1976 and June 28, 1976 at Philly's Tower Theater and the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago.

Thursday June 17, 1976 Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ
Up until about 10 years or so ago, this show was only available as an audience recording. Then, a former roadie passed away and quite a few shows that were only available as audience recordings turned up in soundboard format eventually making their way back to the vault. This show was the first in a three night stand at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic and is only the band's ninth show since they returned to touring on June 3. The show opens with great versions of songs like "Cold Rain and Snow", "Big River" and "Cassidy". A few of the songs are slow even by 1976 standards but they also feel a bit more open ended with some interesting phrasings being thrown in at various places (like in "They Love Each Other" for example). The set list for the show is really good and the playing is strong from beginning to end.
