Simpson Strong-Tie FPBB44 E-Z Base Black Powder-Coated Post Base for 4x4

I used these on a porch roof support, I used three 4x4 posts which was probably overkill but these worked great, they were a snug fit on my 4x4 posts which were from Lowe’s, I used a router and did a 45 degree chamfer on the corners of the post to give it a little better look, then I sanded the post evenly with 60 grit to aid in the install which still took so force. I butted the other end of the post against concrete wall, then used a small sacrificial piece of 4x4 to pound on the post base. They look great and are well made, possibly a little over priced but with everything made so cheap Ill pay for these all day long.

I drilled 4 holes 7/16" wide for 1/2" threaded rod for each post. I used a 2-part concrete anchoring adhesive to secure the bolts to my patio. I leveled the post connector using some galvanized washers below the connector, and used an additional washer, and locking washer to bolt it down. My gate is more solid than I thought it would be.

I used the E-Z Base for a 4" X 4" wooden post for a gate. The area where I was putting the gate was solid concrete and I did not want to bust the concrete or core drill a hole for the post, the E-Z base allowed me to surface mount the post and only drill 4 holes into the concrete to install concrete anchors. For the convenience and price, I highly recommend it.

PROS: Simple but perfect. Prefer these over drilling a single hole, install a "J" bolt, fill cavity around bolt with cement, wait for it to dry, and then put on a flimsy post support that has a gap to tighten the nut on the bolt. Then, your post and all the weight of your project sits on what, a piece of 1/16th metal? This is solid! It has a small section on he inside of the base, for drainage, but I it is heavy duty.CONS: It is a snug fit. Pounding the heck out of them won't guaranty that the post gets to the bottom. And, if you attempt to shave them down just a little bit (especially when using pressure treated posts), once they dry, the will have a bit of wiggle room for your support.Overall: I love them. I used them to build a deck extension over a slab. That part of the deck is hold a hot tub, and some large friends.

Overall these are great, and I'd buy them again. In fact, I have for 2 projects.PROS: Sturdy. Solid. Easy to put in in that they have 4 screwholes into the ground and 8 into the 4x4.CONS: Holes for screwing down... it says to use 1/2 inch concrete wedge bolts. But you can't push them through the holes - the bolts are too big. SO, you must install bolts in ground then put these over them. That is HARD; very little room for any error at all in drilling holes and installing anchors.Bigger issue... these are 1/8 inch or so too small for a standard 4x4! We bought the treated 4x4s at lowes - 12 of them - and every single one we had to plane and sand the corners round and 1/16 off each side before we could pound them into the base holders. It took about 10 minutes for each post and was really annoying.Would I buy them again? Probably, as long as I had 10 minutes per post to work on them.

We used these when putting up a privacy wall between our next door neighbors. We live in a row home and there is cement that my husband had to drill into. This style bracket worked perfect and is sturdy enough to support the bottom of our privacy wall. The only complaint was trying to remove that big sticker which came off in pieces. The brackets are at the bottom of our 4 x 4 fence post. Sorry it is not showing in the picture, but the the privacy wall is 8 foot.

I actually used these to mount a horizontal 4X4 to Two upright 4X4's to make a swing frame. This allowed me to insert the two upright ones in the square holes and then I used Lag screws to fix it to the horizontal 4X4. Worked great. And most of the pressure is actually on the 4X4's.These are GREAT and very sturdy. However, I did have to sand down the 4x4 some to get it to insert in good. Very tight fit. Will certainly purchase again!

These are a bit costly, but they are well worth it as they make it easy to fasten a 4 x 4 post to concrete and they do it in a very secure manner. I used three of them to build a fence to hide my garbage cans behind and the end result was a very strong and sturdy fence that was firmly anchored to my concrete slab using Simpson Strong Tie STB2-50334 1/2-Inch by 3-3/4-Inch bolts. Don't forget to buy a good quality concrete drill bit as each of these requires 4 bolts and poor quality bits won't last. I used a DEWALT DW5437 1/2-Inch x 4-Inch x 6-Inch Rock Carbide SDS Plus Hammer Bit which easily drilled the 12 holes I needed for my project and I have no doubt it will last long enough to drill several more. If you are looking for an easy way to attach a 4 x 4 post to concrete this is what you are looking for.
