How to be Your Own Selfish Pig: And Other Ways You've Been Brainwashed

Good book overall, hard to decide on an age however
I am using Ambleside online and this book is recommended for 7th grader. My son is 12. I think the apologetic part of the book is good and a pretty interesting format: why believe ? belief in God, belief in truth, in morality , in the bible etc.So overall it's pretty good. However it is a bit dated, there is a few quotes from songs I have never heard of and I was confused at first if these were supposed to be wisdom or not as they are presented the same way as the bible quotes. An other issue for us is in the exemples given, the book mentions the holocaust and nazi shooting babies, it mentions drugs, abortion, cruelty etc. I think all these exemples at once might be too much to handle. I could explain some, yes our kids will eventually be exposed to the evil in the world, but that is a lot all within a few lines. So I am not sure about having my kid read this book. Overall it's not bad, but I think there are other apologetic books for teens and preteens out there, less dated and without unnecessary graphic details.

Good Book to Start With
This book is an excellent primer for someone wanting to apprehend the importance of detecting worldviews in oneself and others. The author is the daughter of Francis Schaeffer. She uses the experiences she gained in the Swiss La'Bri during her childhood and the one in England to draw out the key idea of the book. What she really wants us to know is that ideas have consequences and the way one thinks will lead to actions which are consistent with one's thoughts. Throughout the book, she gives top-level analysis for the predominant world-views in the world, and then she contrasts them with the truth of the Christian world-view. She pulls heavily from her father, but writes in a way that a youth can easily grasp what she is trying to communicate.I read it with my 14 y/o daughter, and it lead to good conversations that challenged her to examine her own thinking. She discovered some inconsistencies that she wants to address, and she truly sees how non-Christian worldviews fail to work for the good of the person in real life.

Great to read with kids 10 or older.
This book was a great tool to read with my 10 year old daughter. We have been studying world view and what that looks like for different people. The book tells specific stories of people who come to L'Abri tp visit. These people are real, and struggle with God and discuss their beliefs. Some athiest, some with eastern religion - a whole assortment. I found that it has given both of us more assurance in speaking about our faith in a loving way. Listening to other views and challenging people about what they think. 1st Peter 3:15I plan on having my teenage son read it next. I'm only 3/4 done with it, so unless there is some twist at the end - I recommend it. It would be great for adults too, my intent was to read with my kids. I am enjoying it myself as well.

Great book for young thinkers!
I am familiar with this book, which uses lots of great anecdotes and fun illustrations to help teens (or even preteens) think about worldviews and religions (with a focus on Christianity). I plan to give this to my granddaughter, who loves to think and ask questions about deep topics.

Great Introduction For Younger
I purchased this book as an introduction to world views for my 12 year old daughter. We both appreciated the way Macaulay presents the ideas she sets forth in the book. They are presented in active manner often asking (in the beginning) the young person about their willingness to explore these ideas. I think it's great for the tween who may have a desire to form their own thoughts and ideas as she acknowledges this and encourages them to do so - thoughtfully, with reason, logic and the gospel.

Strong logical appeal
Macaulay is the daughter of Francis Schaeffer, and has his gift for teaching. This book is a good choice for anyone 12 and over who wants to confirm and affirm his/her faith logically and be able to share with others. If you are a liberal and consider yourself open-minded, it is for you too!

Reprint This Book!
This book should definitely be reprinted. An excellent basic worldview catalog.

The content is a little bit dated but the subject matter is relevant. How is the message of Christ unique in answering the deep question, "Why am I here?" This book gives an answer with engaging stories of real people asking the same questions that everyone asks at some point.

Open this book and enrich your mind
A classic work of apologetics for young people. My original copy went astray, so I was pleased to be able to get a replacement.

L'Abri Fellowship, Pigs Anonymous
I keep re-ordering this book though it was first published in the 80's. It is a little dialogue in a retreat centre in London where the author Susan MacAuley lives and works. Big life questions for people in transition who want to investigate the God question. It's not too heavy and humorous cartoons and quotes help focus.
