Continuum: Season 3

Great Series - Should Have Lasted Longer Than Four Seasons - Suggestions for the Writers
Great series and acting by the cast. Season three however moved away from simpler times. Kiera lost site of her son and family which never would happen in real life. And other violent stuff with Alec I won't mention because it would be a spoiler. ***** SPOILER ALERT ****Here are the problems created by season three followed by the great possible solutions:1 – Fans did not care for how quickly Kiera gave up the idea of returning home to her son and husband - real mothers don't do that in real life so this was a bit of a mess - it damaged the character's moral integrity which was her strength2 – Early Episodes and repeated flashbacks seemed to indicate the husband knew more than he was saying before the attempted execution but this was never resolved leaving a huge hole in the overall story3 – Kagame was dismissed too easily as someone not able to change the future based on altruistic actions in the 2012 ‘present’ – one paradox was layered on top of another paradox and so the third season theme was ‘nothing really matters’4 – This might actually be the biggest flaw of season three – Kiera number one had a bullet in her head and fans were shocked at the cavalier way Kiera number two had quickly given up on her family to further a script driven romance with a complete stranger who BTW was the one who shot her in the head – complete and utter garbage5 – Betty was mercilessly murdered to elicit an emotional reaction – any writer who uses the killing off of main loved characters as an emotional tool is a chooch6 – Alec killed himself in a gruesome fight to the death with himself – a really sick and twisted scene to watch – this event written into the script degraded the character of both Alec Sadlers - gone is the simpler times of season one and two where Alex is this idealistic kid who is helping a time traveler get back home7 – Carlos Fennegra did not appreciate his original partner being shot in the head and did not really know where he was or what he was accomplishing8 – A weird original time traveler lurks in the background – this is a mistake – as if he can direct the correct passage of time starting a thousand years ago – no human has this wisdom or power – a complete absurdityThe following suggestions however you want to fit them into your ‘plan’ however messed up it is at this point in time is how you fix all these problems and end the series on a very dramatic positive note Scenario: Season 41 - Kiera needs to regain her love for her family2 - Kiera dumps the schmuck she has been shacking up with from the future3 - Kiera assembles the team again comprising of Liberate, Julian, Carlos, and Alec with the purpose of forming a new frontal assault on the time line. Alec determines that to fix things they need to use the principles of Kagame and Thesius combined to shape a change for the benefit of all people. As a team they enable the time travel apparatus and return to a time just before the events that sent Liberate members and Kiera to 2012. They do this just in time (pun intended) as the 2012 time line implodes with everything around them dissolving3 - This new forged team is now in 2077. This will allow the writers to visit events that Kiera’s husband knew about before the prisoner execution. And explain his apprehension before the execution went bad. Travis is reunited with Sonya – however Travis, Garza and Lucien are melded with their identical selves since they are the same persons who left 2077 – they now have enhanced memories of events from 2012.4 – The new team defeat the corporations in 2077 by joining forces with intellectuals from an even distant future. To solidify the stationary correction in events it is learned a team must return to 2012 at the instant Kiera and Liberate originally traveled back in time – this brings Betty back to life as well as the police chief. (this can be the last episode of the series)The nice thing about this scenario is the first Kiera ends up with her family. The second Kiera will return to a time that the writers can call ‘shaped time’ where in theory all the duplicates will become one with the originals in 2012 (as explained by the future intellectuals) keeping their acquired knowledge of all events thus insuring the fixes in 2077 that divest the corporations of power will be unchallenged by them.Time markers are set throughout this era called sequencers or convergence stabilizers that will prevent these times from being altered ever again.Kiera number 2 ends up with Carlos back in 2012. All of the Liberate team survive. No one is killed for false emotional sympathy. Travis is reunited with the self sacrificing Sonya. In the future past the year 2077 there can be a scene where a time capsule from the 2012 team wishes the 2077 team well. Thus a good and happy ending to Continuum. The teams are victorious and together in different times.PS – I work in IT so all of these concepts have been tested (just kidding)

Major plot shift expected for season 3
UPDATED new statement: Continuum was picked up by SYFY while in its third season giving it a boost into the global market and just in time ,in my opinion, because I don't think it would have survived financially in the local markets even considering its success the first two seasons.Update:[6-26-14] In my opinion, SYFY's decision to pick up season 3 may have been press releasedmonths later, but the strategy and timing behind their decisions came months earlier when theyplanned their move to the global markets with SYFY's help. (No need for last minute decision makingusing magic 8 balls and heat of the moment calls to the press)**A big shout out to my research assistant Matt for helping me to provide this important update**...................................................................................................................[RETRACTED earlier statement......(kept to explain the trail of responses here)...........It appears Continuum was going to be "dis-continued" after the first two seasons,(Surprising considering how successful the first two seasons were) but was salvagedby the Sci-Fy channel. [(this is only my opinion based on research)--ADDED later to clarify]..................................................................................................................update: Despite the shows success the first two seasons, it had limited market potential untilReunion pictures partnered with Thunderbird to bring Continuum to SYFY (into the globalmarket (US, UK, ASIA).....(SHOWCASE was their initial outlet and could not continue tosurvive on the current budget.))]In season 3 the time jumps definitely have derailed there original purposes, leaving thecharacters having to, for a while, explain away (devoid of action scenes) a lot of theinconsistencies they now face in their current timeline. It was a bumpy ride but looks like they are getting back on track with a new purpose, possiblyuniting to fight a bigger foe..(additional timelines and crossovers) that now threaten reality itselfand the ultimate perpetrator behind it all....a possible evil Alec Saddler from their original future. This looks to put Time cops as the new important forefront for preserving the present from an ever-invading futureof corrupt timelines.Liber8 leaders, even though they were terrorists, have proven a corruption and power struggle going onwith the corporations. Keira, as well, discovered an equal and opposite corrupt power struggle going ontoo. This finding does seem to logically lead to where the plot is now.the way the plot has been unfolding will require you to watch the earlier episodes again to makesense of the transitions and why they took place. This actually made watching the earlier episodesfun to watch because there was something new to discover in them I didn't catch the first time.(As finally made clear by watching the later ones.)

Double trouble
A three disc dvd box set containing all thirteen episodes of the third season of Continuum. A thriller/time travel series. This far in, the programme has built up a lot of story, so this isn't a jumping on point. New viewers should start with season one. Each episode runs for forty mins approx.Following on from the end of season two, the choice Alec made in that particular cliffhanger naturally has consequences. All of which push one person a bit too far for their liking. Kiera now has more secrets to keep. But ultimately it's all down to the choices that Alec makes...The story takes a bit of a turn from previous seasons here, getting a bit more into the time travel element, so you do need to keep you attention focused to fully get a handle on it. But this does allow for some great material for the actors who play Carlos and Alec, and both of them really do make the most of it.Since it does also get heavily into the moral issues that the show has covered from the start, it does get a bit depressing at times, as it's not a show with any light to balance out the dark. But it still does make you think about the issues it covers rather than preach at you, which is how it should be.There are good fight scenes, and some good use of songs for emotional moments. As a season though, it does threaten to drift a bit in the middle. Episode seven is nearly all flashback to something from Kiera's past, and then you do wonder over the next three episodes where it's going, as it doesn't seem to know. Especially when one subplot gets terminated a bit abruptly.Don't worry though, because episode eleven shows it has known all along. This pulls it all together superbly. And episode twelve is even more superb in how it deals with the consequences of what just happened. The season finale isn't quite as dramatic as these two parts, but it does twist and turn very nicely, right up to a surprising cliffhanger at the end. Which will make you desperate to know what happens next.A solid season all in all, with some fine long term writing. Well worth four stars. The dvds have the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, French.Subtitles: English, French, Dutch. And disc three has some extras:Behind the scenes is a thirty minute long feature which is made of several shorter featurettes. Some feature the cast talking to other cast members about the characters and issues of the season. These bits are quite good. The others are technical and behind the scenes stuff, which can be quite interesting. There are webisodes: which are basically deleted scenes, four in particular each from a different episode. All run about three mins and can only be watched all in a row. None are desperately important. There's also a commentary on the season finale from the show's creator and one of the production staff from the episode.

Continuum conundrum
Good but time jumping and two Alex Sadllers makes this more complex to follow than previous excellent two series. Not sure plot lines involving maintaining time continuum are convincing. Watchable and looking forward to last series.

Another good season...
Another great series of Continuum with Keira dealing with the consequences of Alec's betrayal. A well-paced series, with an interesting plot. Recommend it if you have watched previous seasons.

Subtle and surprising
This is subtle writing and it grew on me hugely. It really engages the brain and the story has been carefully thought out. Looking forward to the next and sadly final season.
