Four Gothic Novels: The Castle of Otranto; Vathek; The Monk; Frankenstein (Oxford World's Classics (Paperback))

I purchased this book because I had already read all four novels at university and found this book so handy having four fantastic Gothic stories in one. I'm completely besotted with Gothic novels and The Monk was the only one out of the four that I had started but hadn't had the chance to finish so I was delighted to do so. Every one of these stories is a classic and an absolute must for fans of Gothic fiction, but The Monk is my favourite out of the four. It has all the favourite themes a Gothic novel should have and all the right amount of gore, violence, ghosts, heroes, villains, debauchery, immorality, corruption and the list goes on, as well as a hint of humour and irony thrown in for good measure. I love the way that several stories come together in strange, unexpected ways to culminate in horrific results of epic proportions. This is the kind of novel that you can read in bed with the covers pulled up to your nose on a chilly night with the rain pouring down and the storm clouds brewing up something fierce or you could be sitting in a deck chair in the sun sipping a refreshing drink and either way you would get chills from the haunting plot and chilling description that was the invention of the brilliant mind of Matthew Lewis. The Monk is one of my favourite books of all time and I would recommend this collection to anyone and everyone no matter what their taste in literature.

Looked forward to getting these. However even with glasses I can’t read the print! It’s very small I don’t need to wear glasses for everything either

Admittedly I only paid £2.89 (inc p&p) but it was advertised as 'good' and it wasn't. The cover was torn and there was some mold inside. I think 'poor' would have been a better description. If I had seen this in a book shop I would not have considered it.

Brilliant resource. Good condition and quality of service. I would highly recommend this book. Great for my pupils. Good job!!
