Fray Bentos Fray Bentos Just Chicken Pie - 425g

I opened the can, put the pie in the oven, and when I broke through it seemed to have two pieces of chicken, a few bits of chicken, and the rest was pastry and gravy. Not the Fray Bentos I remember, not good value either.

Very good delivery. But what a disappointment with the fray bentos pie , it is nothing like it used to be a few years ago , you have to go looking for odd bits of chicken in thick bland gravy. Nice looking tin but that’s it

When I clicked the “buy it again” button on my previous order of Fray Bentos Just Chicken pies, I expected a repeat of my previous order of a box of 6 pies. This morning I received a delivery of just ONE pie...for £9. NINE POUNDS! For one pie!! If you think expecting a box of 6 pies for £9 is unrealistic, remember you can pick these up in pound shops for £1 each. Charging £9 for a single pie is both extortionate & a complete rip-off, pure & simple. Really angry at being conned.

This was "Just Chicken Pie" and was aptly named because the chicken only just managed to get into the pie. A more appropriate name would have been a pastry pie as there was little or no filling.

It's Fray Bentos so we (should) know what to expect: there could be more chicken in there but they have always been about the gravy & the pastry which are delicious - and at a pretty cheap price for so much food. Nothing else quite tastes the same. You can always add extra chicken and still end up paying less than many other pies, and you get the unique flavour. And scraping the tin is a ritual for people of my age, and no doubt many other age groups.

I've seen more meat on a butchers pencil.

I found opening the tin to cook it was very difficult. The pie itself was tasty but could have done with a bit more filling but on the whole a decent product.

Nothing abnormal to report. Usual quality. Does what it says on the tin. Good to have spares in the store cupboard.
