Investigators take notice
Aaron Edens created a comprehensive and pretty complete guide to investigations involving mobile devices. I have recieved training from some of the best sources and I found this book to build upon it. I rated this 4 stars because it met my expectations and slightly exceeed them. I would strongly recommend this book to another investigator.

Required Reading for ANY Law Enforcement Officer!!!!
I am a twenty-five year veteran of law enforcement. I have worked in almost every capacity from officer to detective to detective supervisor. The majority of my career has been spent working investigations. This book is a TREMENDOUS resource and should be required reading for any investigator, regardless of experience level. When I started in law enforcement, cell phones were rare; today, 90% of the U.S., population has a cell phone. Not only are phones a source of communication, but a majority are used in place of the personal computer. The amount of information stored in phones today is phenomenal and to ignore that as a detective would be unconscionable. This book is simply a "how-to" guide to complete a cell phone investigation, from soup to nuts. It lays is all out, from search warrants to case law to collecting and interpreting the data.Mr. Edens is definitely an expert in the field and has obviously put a lot of work into this manual. It is PACKED with information. He lays out different investigative techniques and provides 100's of photos and diagrams to help the reader understand what is being taught. Edens writes in a style which makes this book very easy to understand; he is definitely a cop, writing for other cops. He makes a very complicated (and often boring) subject very easy for the reader to understand and appreciate.I particularly enjoyed the chapter on cell towers and cell sites (Chapter 4). This section described, in detail, everything you need to know about "chasing phones." Edens breaks everything down, from the nomenclature to how the towers and sites actually work. He teaches the reader everything necessary to track down the phone (and ultimately the crook you are looking for). I can see how this would be invaluable to an officer/detective/agent who is tracking a fugitive or trying to establish a location for the possessor of the phone in order to complete or enhance an investigation.I am unaware of any other books on the subject of cell phone investigations. As I stated above, this book should be REQUIRED reading for anyone in the investigation business. The resources that he cites in the book, alone, are worth the price of buying this. I purchased a copy and am planning to leave it in my squad room for all of my fellow investigators to utilize. Do yourself or your agency a favor and pick this book up today. I guarantee you will be using the information found here on your next investigation, regardless of the type of case. In today's world, you cannot consider yourself a well-rounded and complete detective without having a working knowledge of cell phones. This book will give you what you need to be successful in terms of investigating cell phones and their data.

A must have for cell phone investigators
I attended a class the author Aaron Edens taught in December 2015. Many confusing cell phone questions were answered and a ton of new knowledge was disseminated. In the last five plus years I have attended a variety of cell phone related investigations classes; this was by far the best. I bought Aaron's book the first week it was published and it has been my "cell phone investigations" bible ever since. If you really want to know cell phone terminology and the "ins and outs" of cell phone investigations this book should be a part of your expertise history.

Exceptionally thorough work!
2014-11-07 21:19Message 28 of 48<>Truly the most comprehensive material written on the subject of cell phone investigations. This book is a one stop shop combining information on cellular technology, call detail records analysis and cellular forensics. A must have for today’s criminal investigator. Det. Good book, very comprehensive.
The reason for the four stars and not five is simply from the UK perspective. This is a very useful book written by a cop for cops. There is a very good selection of draft search warrants which will, I am sure, be very useful to US LE but, unfortunately, not to me. Having said that the content is well laid-out and comprehensive. The author goes into fairly deep technical details but these are well presented and built upon previous explanations. Given a reasonable background in computer science, this book should not be beyond the grasp of the average reader. One final niggle, in two or three places the author, having whetted my appetite, then says that if I wish to know the details I must email him from a LE email address. I am one of those who believes that Prosecution and Defence should have equality of arms.
