Algebra 2: An Incremental Development (Saxon Algebra)

Saxon Math is solid
Saxon Math is a good math program that spirals and gives great description for the student. I think it has a solid math backbone for students. Both my kids like math and do not struggle with math in public schools, so when I decided to homeschool, I wanted a challenging curriculum. The math my daughter does for algebra is much more advanced than what her public school friends do. I feel confident she will be more prepared for college with Saxon math. However, I think be careful who you buy from. I purchased the textbook used from Franklin Media and it is written in everywhere. It’s terrible. I have to spend a lot of time erasing the students work. Better to buy new from Christian bookstore or rainbow resources than her a used a book I can barely use because of all the marks. I wish I could return it, not because I the material but because of the seller. Buyer beware.

Best Math Books
Saxon were always my favorite math books when I was in high school, and I stand by them now as a teacher. What I really appreciate is that they make it hard to forget things. Every lesson introduces a new concept with lots of examples and explanations so it is easy to understand. Then the problem sets include problems from that day's lesson, but also problems from previous lessons, too. Students do not just learn something and leave it, making it easy to forget. They learn something, and every few days it comes back up in the problems (how often depending on how many and which problems are assigned). This model makes it much easier to remember and internalize the concepts. This is especially important because math builds upon itself. So understanding what came before makes it much easier to grasp the new concepts.I wholeheartedly recommend Saxon math to teachers, homeschoolers, administrators, and anyone else making curriculum decisions and trying to choose the best for their students.

Best math curriculum
I am giving this 5 stars because my kids are epic at math because of Saxon. Something I wish I had growing up. I had to keep recounting the stars to make sure I got it right. 😉😂

The Best!
Nobody explained mathematics as clearly as John Saxon. My daughter used this book and the two that followed it, and she passed the AP Calculus exam when she was in the ninth grade.

The best alg.2 text!
This is a fail safe series when used as instructed: every problem is worked to 100%; every test must be passed with minimum of 80%; every missed problem is diagnosed by the student for errors + reasons for errors and corrected by working the problem again. This would be kill and drill if not for the spiral structure of the Practice Problems that provide continually increasing difficulty of previously learned concepts. This keeps the brain's neurons connected! Additionally, the texts contain oral mental math practice. AND this level is backed by a DVD of expert instruction!

Great Math Curriculum
I’ve taught math in homeschool and private school for years, and Saxon is my favorite curriculum. I highly recommend it. However, I would not expect a struggling student to begin Saxon in this book. I would go back to the Algebra 1 book and start there. This book also includes excellent geometry practice (no proofs). A student could easily step into college algebra after completing this book. In fact, some of my students have placed out of it with credit by exam after this course.

Good format but lacks thorough explanations
Good follow up book to Algebra 1. Doesn't do a good job at explaining new concepts and leaves a lot to be inferred by the student. I have to do a lot of instruction alongside.
