ElixirStrings Bass Guitar Strings (15433)

Great sounding bass guitar strings!

This is the best bass strings ever and the longest and sharpest sounding bass strings. Wow

The older version of these strings were great. 2 years ago they came out with a new formula for their coating as well as a new stainless steel version of their strings. Unfortunately, the strings suffered a bit. The rest of the set is excellent, but so far I've gone through 2 of these B strings while the rest of the set is still like new. The tone on the B dies after about a month which is way shorter than an Elixir string is expected to last. I usually go 6 months or more on a set and they still sound the same as the new set I'll put on.Luckily (or conveniently for Elixir?) they sell a B string separetly so I can buy that instead of a whole set just to replace 1 string.Update (6-21-15): Elixir was kind enough to send me 2 replacement sets since I had issues with the B strings. Since then I have had no problems with the low B, they must have figured out the issue or I just got unlucky twice. Either way, there are my strings of choice still after 10+ years. Nothing else out there lasts as long, not even close.

This is it. These are not the Best in the World in my book. They are the ONLY Bass Strings.The coating does not last forever, but the tone can last for 2 years.The coating feels like silk and even when that is worn the steel does not shred my fingertips like cheap strings.I am spoiled by this product and the Tone is everything I love.

I was getting this for my nephew for Christmas and didn't realize that it was just one 5th string instead of 5 strings all together. My fault for not knowing much about guitars. I don't know if they used it or not, but at least they have an extra now!

that's about all there is to it. Be nice if Elixir made a dedicated 6-string set ;)

I've used Elixirs in the past and loved them. They last forever!My RKS bass came with coated strings so I figured I'd throw a set of Elixirs on as replacements. Had a little bit of an issue in that, RKS basses load the strings through the back of the body and go up across the saddle. The Elixir 5th string isn't wound @ .125 the entire length and the point at which they stepped-down the winding (on the tuning-peg end) was short of the nut by about an inch or so. Luckily the RKS tailpiece is setup to accept the ball end of the string up top too, so I just loaded the 5th string that way. Just beware, if you've got a bass that loads through the back, you may come up short.By the way, the other 4 strings (E,A,D,G) where plenty long enough to go through the back of the body and up over the saddles, even though they also step-down on the peg end.

Didn't realize I was buying 1 string. I reread the discription and realized my mistake. But at least I got an extra high string in case 1 pops. That 6th string could be an issue some times.
