I've had this for a while, but the performance of this cooler is the best I've ever had. It sits in my truck all the time, and keeps food and drink cold for much longer than my original. I had looked at other brands, and compared to what I see in the field when working - and this unit (in my case) has out performed more expensive brands. Grant it, it's not an larger size as I don't need to haul more than a weeks worth of lunches or dinners, but the cost savings on ice has been noticeable. Have had 1 20bag (lower temps) last up to 2 weeks, extreme hot conditions can get about 4-5 days on a bag. Its a heavier unit compared to the 'box' stores, but definitely more durable. Sturdy handles, a screw-in drain that doesn't need to be removed to empty water and strong rubber latches to keep the lid down. Only aggravation I have is after loading ice, food and drink and getting to my destination, there is such a suction built up that I have to relieve the vacuum through the drain screw so I can open the lid, but I know at least its cold.

My only issue is that the cooler came with a crooked latch. It doesn’t seem to compromise the functioning. The cooler functions very well. I am currently conducting an ice test in Southern Louisiana. 40 miles from the gulf. This cooler is used on hunting trips lasting 3-5 days. The 20lb bag of ice was placed in the cooler Saturday 3/16 and still has about 1lb-2lbs ice left on Thursday morning 3/21. Could maybe stretch another day. The cooler was opened about 5-7 times a day. Weather was 68F average for the duration of test. No additional performance ice packs used. Water drained each day until day 4.

After extensive research I bought this cooler from Defender (GREAT customer service BTW). I needed a cooler to replace the built in ice box on a sailboat I am restoring. I chose this portable cooler vs rebuilding the ice box because it will keep food cooler for longer with less ice and less mess and greater cleanliness at a fraction of the cost and provide similar cooled volume for food storage with less volume of the boat used to create the cooled volume. The Deep Blue cooler had the dimensions to fit my space. It had demonstrated performance based on reviews and testimony.The cooler arrived a couple of days after I ordered it (free shipping from Defender). I froze ten 20oz bottles of water and put them in the cooler today (about half the internal volume of the cooler). The cooler is in my sailboat which is on its trailer in the early summer sun in south Alabama (80F outside). In less than two hours the cooled volume was at 40F. I plan to monitor the cooler for the next ten days recording the temp at about 12 hour intervals. I will change out the water bottles with new frozen bottles when the temp rises to 45F.I'll update the review after the ten day test is complete.

This cooler did not keep ice frozen any longer than a Walmart ice chest. It was under covered truckbed for 6 hours on a mild day and 20 lb ice bags were half melted on arrival. And it was chilled in advance.

This holds ice longer than my Yukon 70 quart cooler and holds longer than my father in-law's yeti 45 but I have yet to see it hold ice 8 days as it claims I have even went so far as to leave my cooler in a freezer for 3 days then put ice and cold drinks in it and it did hold ice for 5 days and on day 8 there was one cube floating in the cooler but I don't consider that holding ice the price point is far better than the others

I am blown away how long this will hold ice and keep items cold. The size is perfect for my needs. I was looking for a high end cooler but didn't want one that weighed 40lbs empty. This fit the bill perfectly. My 1st use was holding ice for a holiday party. It's held ice for 7 days and it was opened a lot. 2nd time was also holding ice for another party. Put 30 lbs of ice in it for drinks and put it in the garage which was 40 degrees. Opened a lot for the 1st 4 days. No melting. I forgot about and checked it on the 12th day it still had usable ice. I was impressed to say the least. I realize the outside temp helped it stay cold longer but even my old cooler wouldn't last 2 days in the same conditions. For me it's a perfect cooler.

Love ours BUT we ordered white and received gray. Do not have time to exchange. Not happy w color but it will have to do

Bought this cooler according to a review on amazon. It must have been a relative of the company owner writing it. Have used the Engel now for several months and have found that it is almost worthless as a cooler; Two bags of ice in Texas 98 degree weather every day (in the shade even). Even our friend's Walmart cooler outperforms the Engel. We will be purchasing a Yeti soon! We paid a lot of money for no satisfaction. VERY SORRY for this purchase.
