Review: This is a great, simple cookbook. Anyone can do these scrumptious recipes. - This is not just a cookbook. The photos and recipes are beautiful. Some of the greatest local recipes for food. Delicious and eye catching. Review: A good solid book for your Hawaiian Cookbook collection - This book was one of my first introductions to Hawaiian cooking and recipes. It is a solid cookbook that I come to again and again - I love how there's just a fun and bit modern twist on classic recipes and gives the dishes just a little more of a flavor profile and punch. I've made the adobo at least 30 times, taking it to family gatherings with Filipino Aunties and Uncles...all asking me about 'my' adobo recipe, of course giving credit to this book. A definite recommend!

Magnificent
We eat with our eyes. Be prepared to be delighted. This book is far beyond what I imagined. It is worthy of even non foodies relishing the contents. Ona scale of 1 to 10 this is at least a 12. What a grand introduction to Hawaii for new or seasoned travelers.

If you love Hawaii and cooking you will LOVE this cookbook!
Yeah, this book is the real deal. Very well written and full of recipes that actually make sense. In a realm of so many cookbooks that look pretty but lacks in truly great recipes this book stands out as a must have!!

Great recipes.
Recipes are great. They are easy to follow and tasty. I ordered the spiral bound version. A book that that get heavy use needs metal spiral binding not flimsy plastic. Save yourself do money and get the version with the regular binding.

local food, and plate lunch from a mesh of cultures, what isn't there to like
This book is awesome, it reminds me of like those old hawaiian buddhist church cookbooks that everyone in the neighborhood contributed that one favorite recipe to sell as a fundraiser. In this book though has almost all the favorites i grew up withand i mean "all". It covers everything from true hawaiian, then i think mostly the japanese cultural foods, with a few chinese/portugese/korean/filipino recipes that make the typical plate lunch is here in this one book. I love that it has things like POG, pineapple, orange, guava juice that kids drank and would collect the POG caps to play a game with, and snacks like cone sushi, hurricane popcorn, boiled peanuts, manapua . Desserts they have malasadas, shave ice, haupia, things people relate to the islands. Love how they explain the ingredients like we use best foods mayo lol, and plate topology. Typically a plate will have carbs galore, large amounts of rice, mac salad, with main dish of some sort of protein, teri chicken, etc, and vegies like chinese chicken salad. That's typical, but a lot of times plates are overflowing with the sides, kim chee, poke, lumpia, poi, lomi salmon, but it's all here. These are the recipes great for potlucks and just enjoying with family and friends. If you want to be a hit at the next party, look no further.

What a beautiful down to earth collection of recipes and family inspiration!
Gave this book to my husband for his birthday. He loves it. I felt it reflected on how he was raised by his parents who are also from Hawaii. His mother journeyed on and Dad is now 96 years young and most of these recipes are what they were raised on and the photos look like what was served at many family meals. This book truly touches on importance of tradition and family, the photographs are just beautiful. This is a book is compiled of a slew of recipes and a bunch of pictures, it’s well thought out. Alana, this is a wonderful book; reflects such a beautiful way of cooking as well as life. Thank you.

Really good recipes
Bought this for my fiancé ahead of us going to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We've tried a few recipes and all have come out and tasted really good. Would definitely recommend if you like pork/chicken dishes and Chinese/Korean-style food.
