excellent egg steamer
I have had this cooker for a year. I have had no issues with water boiling out or soft yolks. I do use the marks on the included cup even though its counterintuitive that you use less water for more eggs. I am at 800 feet above sea level, higher altitudes may have to adjust the amount of water. The little white pan is the perfect size to poach an egg for a breakfast sandwich. Make sure to spray with oil first. There have been comments about the buzzer being too loud. I dont know what they expect. Its about the same volume as an electric razor (sort of what it sounds like) and I can not hear it in the bedroom that is off the kitchen with the door open. I guess if you are in a studio apt it could be a problem. If you let it buzz for too long eventually it will cool down enough to start heating up again which will make it stop buzzing until it gets too hot again. The unit does not turn off until you switch it off. Dont leave it unattended for longer than a few minutes (like taking a shower). It has worked reliably. The buzzer still works. I do soak it with vinegar every few weeks. We have very hard water and it gets gunked up quickly. If you leave it with hard water deposits it will cook incorrectly and could boil out of the cooker. Some hints to get the perfect steamed egg. Make sure you poke the fat end of the egg or the whites will cook out. You dont need to smash the entire pin through the egg, just enough to make a hole. When the eggs are done cooking, remove the lid and leave them until the cool enough to touch, put them in an egg container marked hard boiled and let them cool in the fridge. If you cool them too quickly they will be not be cooked thoroughly. Also, soaking them in cold water will cause the cold water and bacteria to be pulled back through the shell causing a watery egg and they might not last as long. If your eggs are really fresh ( I have chickens) they will be difficult to peel. Keep the uncooked eggs a few more days before cooking and this will help.

Excellent hard cooked eggs
I initially had some problems with the directions and understanding the water level markings, but they gave an email address for customer service, and the response was near instantaneous. The little water cup has a small pin on the bottom to make a little hole in each egg so they don't crack during cooking. Mine was wobbly, and the manufacturer quickly replaced it with a new one (priority mail) which works fine. It makes great hard cooked eggs in only a few minutes. I recommend using distilled water (as with any steam cooker) so residue doesn't build up. It holds a maximum of seven, but even with two batches, a dozen eggs cooks really quickly. It is very small, so it is easy to store and doesn't take up much counter space. I have been using it so much, I haven't put it away yet. In the last couple weeks, I have been making red-beet pickeled eggs, egg salad, and deviled eggs, because it is easy and lots of fun to do. (For whatever reason, I could never get the timing right on boiling the hard-cooked eggs.) It also is supposed to make soft and medium cooked eggs, but I have not tried that. You will know with they are done - the buzzer is loud. For the price, it works very well and I am happy with it and would definitely buy it again.

It works fine but the water measuring device is backwards on the ...
It works fine but the water measuring device is backwards on the numbers!!!!!. Instead of the 1 being at the bottom to count the water as you are measuring for the amount of eggs you are cooking, the 1 is at the top and the 6&7 is at the bottom. Thus the measurement device is not measuring the water as the water goes in. When the water is measured the number lower should start at 1 and the 2 going up and so forth. Instead the number coming first is 6&7. If you cook the eggs with the water measurement at 6&7 you will get eggs that are not cooked. So you need to bring the water up to the number 1 printed on the water measurement tube to cook 6&7 eggs. It's a defect but not worth returning as you can still cook the eggs but it's a bother if you cook less eggs. Also, the directions do not explain to you how to cook poached eggs. Experimenting is needed to get it just right. But the good thing is that the water does not boil over onto the cabinet top like my other egg cookers did. I had to place a towel under those egg cookers to soak up the boiling water as the eggs cooked.

Makes delicious boiled eggs
The good news is that this little egg cooker makes the best boiled eggs I have ever eaten. They are firm, yet moist, and very flavorful. Aside from that, the alarm is quite loud and continues sounding until it is shut off. Regarding the automatic shut-off feature, they obviously weren't referring to the alarm. I don't know whether the cooking shuts off automatically, or not, because the alarm is so loud that I haven't been able to ignore it long enough to test whether the device shuts itself off. Also, the manufacturer could have made the markings more visible on the plastic vial that is included to measure the water for cooking the eggs. The faintness of the markings makes it difficult to fill it to the exact water line for the number of eggs being cooked and the degree of hardness/softness. This unit was purchased to replace a Krups that was old, worn-out, and quit working. By comparison, a new Krups is a nicer-looking unit, has clearer markings on the water vial, and includes 2 poaching trays. Of course, it also costs more than this DB-Tech, which I bought when the price was greatly-reduced. For the money I spent on the DB-Tech, I got a nice little unit that makes delicious boiled eggs - actually much better-tasting than the ones cooked in the old Krups. If the higher cost isn't an issue, you may want to purchase the Krups for its nicer accessories, but I doubt if the eggs will taste any better.

Most useful kitchen gadget I've ever bought!!!
Love it!!! Cooked 6 extra-large eggs to a perfect doneness for hard boiled, beautifully fully-cooked centers and tender throughout. Mashed with a little butter, they were quite yummy! I will be cooking eggs for egg salad as tomorrow's breakfast when I get home. I bought this several months ago, wanted hard-boiled eggs this past weekend without the waiting for water to boil etcetera and noticed it sitting unopened tucked in a corner. This is what I got and how I used it: the base unit (plugs in), the ring for holding the eggs, a bowl for making scrambled eggs, the water measuring cup with egg piercer, and the clear dome-like top. The measuring cup has marks for the doneness: soft, medium, hard. I added a bit more water for my 6 extra-large eggs. Buzzer is loud (sounds when water has boiled away. I immediately took the domed lid off (it has a short handle at the top) when the buzzer sounded & unplugged the unit. Waited a few mins, turned on the cold water, grabbed an egg, held it under the cold water briefly, cracked the fat end (with the puncture hole), and started peeling. It peeled perfectly...as did the other 5; no more wasted egg down the sink...hooray! The water had evaporated. NOTE: I had some 'staining' which is typical of stainless steel when heated, so I sprayed the 'stains' with some household vinegar & let sit for a few minutes, then wiped up the vinegar & 'stains' and again with a wet paper towel to ensure the vinegar was gone. Looked unused again. Made another batch the next day with the same great results. This gadget's gonna get a workout in my household! We adore deviled eggs and egg salad but hate waiting for the eggs to cook. Edited: 7/2/15 Still love this gadget. Takes about 18 mins for 7 extra-large eggs to steam but it's waaaay worth it! Still looks like new. Edited: 12/27/17 Still love this gadget. It's gotten quite a workout since I bought it in '15! I take deviled eggs for holiday get-togethers as everyone loves how tender this gadget makes the eggs. Perfect HB eggs for salads.

Broke After 10 Uses- Bad Appliance -BAD customer service
I bought this electric egg cooker specifically for the auto shut off function. It worked as advertised for about 10 times. Cooked eggs with a lot of trial and error needed to get the right amount of water for the correct softness of the egg. It is best for hard cooked eggs NOT so good for soft eggs. It buzzed loudly and then shut off automatically-- just as the description stated. I went away so I didn't use it again for six weeks. Then when I did---- the Automatic Shut off function did NOT work any longer. It still cooked the eggs and buzzed when there is no more water- but it did not shut off automatically any more. It is a shame because it offered on paper everything that I wanted but it doesn't work. The fact that a key component broke after only 10 uses does not bode well for its functioning life span. I was told by Amazon it was too late to return or exchange it and that I should contact the seller I contacted the seller. The seller, DB Roth, got back to me after three weeks. They said since it was after the 30 day return period I could return it and they would exchange it, BUT they would not provide a mailing label. I would have to pay for the return shipping. I certainly didn't like the manner of their response (I am spoiled by the fabulous Amazon customer service) SO I called Amazon and THEY sent me a return label!! I wouldn't buy from DB Roth again! The egg cooker shouldn't have broken after fewer than ten uses. So..If you want an egg cooker- get another make from another seller.

LOVE IT!!!! GREAT PRODUCT
Best product ever. I am so bad at making hard boiled eggs the old fashion way. I don't know what it is but for some reason they never turn out right. This AWESOME little cooker works great, quick and super easy. This first time I tried it with 3 eggs just to test out the product.... a few minutes later I had 3 prefect hard boiled eggs. I just followed the directions and perfect eggs. my only negatives are the buzzer has a fire alarm sound to it which is not pleasing to the ears and I hope that if i ever drop the plastic lid that I will be able to get a replacement lid as it seems like it would crack easy if dropped. overall love it would recommed it 100%

A wonderfully Amazing Egg Cooker! I have never taste eggs so delicious before in my life...I am not kidding folks!
I received my Automatic Shut-off Electric Egg Cooker on the 07/28/15, and I have been cooking eggs ever since. Man this little machine can make eggs taste like Heaven! I do not know how it does it, but man oh man do the eggs taste so light, fluffy and buttery, and I swear I have not added one oz. of butter to them. The hardboiled eggs come out perfect. There are no more green egg yolks. I do not have to listen to anymore little ones yelling, "Yuck! Gross, I'm not eating that!", just because the their boiled egg has a green yolk. My husband loves scrabbled eggs and is always complaining that I get them to well done, no more complaining now. The Electric Egg cooker scrabbles eggs perfect each and every time. And they taste so good! I like sunny side up eggs, but can never get the top egg whites to cook well enough for them to considered safe to eat, well with this little cooker I was able to solve that problem, now I can enjoy eggs cooked the way I like without the use of unhealthy cooking oils. That's the big beauty of this little Electric Egg Cooker, you are using water to cook with and nothing sticks. Absolutely nothing sticks! You can have eggs and not have the worry of eating the grease, or worry about cleaning all that mess. The cleanup is simple, just wipe out with light soap and water and your done. Have I mentioned how silky smooth and heavenly the yolks taste when you soft boil the eggs in this baby? Oh man, my mouth is watering just writing about it, and I didn't even care about eggs before I got this little baby. If you want to truly experience what it is like to eat an egg, purchase a DBTech Automatic Shut-off Electric Egg Cooker the experience is amazing!
