The Complete Guide to the Bible

I am using this guide alongside reading the bible, and found that this guide only discusses key biblical readings per book. In just reading a few chapters of Genesis KJV, certain topics from the bible were ignored in this complete guide by Miller:1) The story of Adam and Eve: there is no discussion of the story of Cain and Abel. The guidebook references them (pg 14) to explain something else, but the actually story is not discussed, which surprised me.2) Noah and the Ark: less surprising, but still disappointing, was a snippet in the bible that also was not discussed in the guide. The curse on Canaan, Noah's Grandson from his son Hem. After the flood Noah became a husbandman and created a vineyard. He got drunk one night and was stripped of his clothes by "someone". The bible does not detail what happened, but Hem found Noah in his nakedness, informed his brothers, and Japeth and Shem clothed their father without looking at him. When Noah had awakened sober, he immediately knew the culprit who defiled him, and cursed Canaan which further cursed all the furture generations of Hem, as his discendants would not find God's favor. This spoke true later in the Bible. For example, the city of Babel are citizens who blood runs from the line of Hem.My point is that this is just the first few chapters of Genesis, and there is much not being covered by this "complete guide". Thus, I took two stars off for present and future disappointment. Three stars remain for the information given and the wonderful illustrations that make the reading more interesting.

I would give this book 5 stars except I have to be honest about one thing.....it was NOT well edited. And I'll explain that in a minute, but first, I have to say this book is really good for those of us who want to know more about the bible and what its about and who its about and when it happened and where it happened. When known, it tells who wrote each particular book, or who scholars believe wrote it. The read is good. Its interesting, it's written in today's language so I can relate. It does not change the the truth of the Bible and the author refers to scripture at every juncture. There is a little humor thrown in here and there and it just shows that God does have a sense of humor. Most importantly, it makes me want to dig further into the Bible for more information on certain subjects. I am really enjoying reading this book, but its slow-going because, like I said I stop frequently to research the scriptures. Ok, now for the poor editing. All too often, I'll be reading along and suddenly, a sentence ends and there is nothing more to read on the subject. I've experienced this probably 15 or 20 times. It mostly happens in a small callout sections. Frustrating, to say the least.

For those who weren't given a religious education early in life, this is an outstanding handbook for understanding the Old and New Testaments. Easy and enjoyable to read, it enables the reader to find his own way through the sacred writings, poetry, literature, history and wisdom that comprise the Bible.For each of its 66 "books", Miller provides a summary of contents, background on authorship, and an overview of highlights, with references to chapter and verse for further reading in the original. The book is brightened throughout with excellent illustrations, maps, and sidebars.Written with great care and a healthy sense of humor, the "Complete Guide" makes the treasures of the Bible accessible to anyone. It would be a fine gift.

This book literally called to me while I was at CVS last week. I am using it to get context about the history and geography of the era in the Bible. It’s awesome to read alone or add to your Bible reading. The writer comes from a place of Biblical sense while proving historical facts. His intent is to get you to understand what and why things were the way they were back then. I have sent 3 copies already to friends and family members. They all loved it. Steven M Miller fills the gaps I had even after reading the Bible 3 times before reading this book.

I am really enjoying this book and am learning a great deal, especially about the Old Testament, that I never knew before. I would give this book five stars except that there are some formatting and proofing errors that seem odd. Some paragraphs or sentences are cut-off and don't continue onto the next page. There are also some box or side-bar notes where the words are run together into one long word. These errors are fairly infrequent, but still noticeable. Even with those small issues, I would definitely recommend the book as an extremely readable and user-friendly introduction to the Bible. The graphics and illustrations are very nicely done and informative.

In addition to the stained pages the binding of the book was deteriorating and numerous pages fell out . Receiving a replacement so hopefully I won’t experience anymore issues. This is good reference material thus I asked for a replacement .

I wanted to get the Leather version of this ever since I saw Stephen's email. Having known Stephen for quite a number of years I know the quality of material he puts out. This is no exception. What separates Stephen from other 'bible study authors' is his candor and humor and wit and just plain down-to-earth demeaner. When he says he doesn't know the details about who, what, why, where or how he means it. Who did God explain the Adam and Eve story too...don't know how that happened, just that it did. No certainty that Noah landed on thee Mt. Ararat, but he did land in the mountains of Ararat. Stephen is brilliant in his Bible knowledge and completely knows the geography and history behind every person, place and thing. The illustrations are vibrant and alive and he makes it interesting with his own personal wit. It makes studying the Bible so much more fun and enjoyable.

I didn’t like the book. The author explains most of God’s actions such as spreading of the Red Sea in Exodus as a natural events.

Liked the layout and the extra information. Did not like the language used. Overuse of the word “badlands” and what sort of word is “switcheroo”? Probably this book is more suited to children and teenagers. Shame as the book is beautifully laid out and illustrated. Maybe an English version would have been more attractive. Anyway got to start somewhere and the content is excellent - a springboard to further study. I’m skim reading it now though and not enjoying it as it should be enjoyed.

My ignorance of the bible knows no bounds, this book really helps to fill in the gaps in my poor religious education, well illustrated ...recommended.

Love this Bible guide with lots of colour pictures and extra information that helps you process the bible book you are reading.

Very good book

interesting bible commentary in an easy to read format. the price is right, beautifully illustrated, garaunteed to make your bible more easily understood. cannot put it down. on the downside, inadequate thin bubble-wrap and canada post football team will ensure damage ranging from dinged corners and dog-ears to broken spines. book shipment should go back to cardboard packaging.
