The Parapsychology Revolution: A Concise Anthology of Paranormal and Psychical Research

If youre a mystic, like me, looking to take a serious look at parapsychology, look no furthur. This is the book you are looking for. And it's published by one of the guys who redated the sphinx! It is what ot says it is, a reader friendly yet scholarly look into the last hundred years of parapsychological research. And there is a lot out there that most of us have never heard of...

My headline says it. I haven't read a lot in this area, but I found this a very helpful introduction.

If you're curious to learn about the mysteries of the paranormal, this is a deeply researched profound study of the paranormal--a must read.

This book was not what I was expecting. This book is more of a reference book, so if you want to know other books to read this book will give you a lot of references. The larger amount of this book is references on subjects the authors collected. They seem to have no real opinion of their own. Parapsychology is very broad and this book has nothing new that can not be found in any of a number of books that are more interesting and cover the subject with more information.I am teaching a course in Parapsychology and I was wanting to review a few books for use by my students. This book will NOT be one of those books.I will not refer this book to anyone, I just need to find someone to buy this one from me.

The Parapsychology Revolution: A concise anthology of paranormal and psychical research, compiled and edited by Robert M. Schoch and Logan Yonavjak, Jeremy Tarcher & Penguin, 2008, 432 ff.Robert Schoch is a member of the College of General Studies at Boston University and Logan Yonavjak is a researcher from the Rhine Research Center in Durham, North Carolina. Together they have adopted a scientific approach to accumulating and examining the evidence gathered from more than a century of research into psychic phenomena by presenting the reports of the investigators concerned. The earliest incidents reported are those from Edmund Gurney on Crisis Apparitions (1886) and from William James on the Trance Phenomena of Mrs Piper (1890). Among the most recent are articles by Robert Jahn from 1996 and by Larry Dossey from 2007. The editors interject commentary on the articles throughout and there are references listed at the end of each section of the book.Their appraisal seems to me to be as objective as it can be. They do not include out-of-body experiences or near-death experiences in their study but consider that the evidence for the existence of telepathy and psychokinesis is rationally convincing. Clairvoyance, precognition and retrocognition are all subsumed into the term ESP and the editors suggest that these phenomena are effectively instances of forms of telepathy. This is an interesting book with a wealth of data - so much so that it is probably best read one topic at a time. There is far too much to assimilate at one reading. Robert M. Schoch, Ph.D. and Logan Yonavjak take a bold no-nonsense approach in their thoroughly examined, comprehensive compilation of serious research regarding different aspects of the paranormal including scientifically based findings and conclusions within the last century or so in their book The Parapsychology Revolution. In a rather rigorous review of up to date psi research, Schoch and Yonavjak explore well-documented observations and reports of things unknown and unexplained such as esp, telepathy, clairvoyance, distance healing, remote viewing, and poltergeist activity. Perhaps the time has come to bring the study of anomalies out of the closet and into the light where exploration of truth may dissipate the fear which keeps it there.I found this anthology (along with personal comments and experiences by the authors) a must read for skeptics and students alike as it does justice to both pure science and that which is currently considered its evil opposition, bringing a sort of unity to both. In our search for truth may we never loose our sense of awe (even if we have to stand behind the scientific lens of perception).
