Duplicity [DVD]

Noticed all the usual negative reviews, 'convoluted plot, over complicated, couldn't understand it etc. Glad I didn't read the reviews before I watched it because I had no trouble following it and it was an interesting twisty plot. Unlike most of the hollywood dross we get nowadays it didn't need loads of car chases, explosions and fight scenes to make it work.It's all in the title really "Duplicity", not just double bluff, probably triple bluff.I think it's a common problem, everyone has such short attention spans, if there's not a crazy action scene in the first five minutes they can't be bothered to actually get into a film, the Tiktok and You tube reviewers I call them.If you want to watch a great little film with some clever ideas and good acting don't pass this by.

Two spies `love affair' with playing employers, and dancing around trusting each other. The main actors are great working across from each other in these roles.There are quite a number of 'x years/months ago....' scenes, but they are clear, and it's also obvious when one returns back to the present as it is in the film. It doesn't demand a huge amount of attention.There are a few bits where attention drifts (I shan't bore with elucidations on this), but something else comes back that might claim it again.Subtitles would improve it immensely -- note to Amazon!!I sort of guessed something like the ending as a possibility at some point, but it's still good.

After reading 2 star reviews claiming that this movie is too convoluted to follow, I was curious to see if I could follow it. Being of average intelligence or a bit less.It isn't hard to get what's going on - t's just impossible to know why.As it unfolds it becomes apparent that the movie is about duplicity - but who is conning who? It doesn't have to be a guessing game, but people who excel at that will get clues.It's probably not a great idea to watch this if you are likely to be interrupted and miss key moments in the plot, but otherwise it is easily do-able. Maybe a short bit of rewinding might be good for some. Or even watch it a second time once the twist at the end is revealed?I would say a clever plot done in an entertaining way, rather that a deliberately obscure emperor's new clothes type movie.

Heist romcom that fans of the Thomas Crown Affair remake might enjoy. A little more farcical but lots of fund with delicious production design and cinematography.

The intention here was to make a clever film about a clever idea featuring cleverly sequenced and cleverly constructed flashbacks featuring two clever people who are themselves outwitted by one of the clever people and his clever team of backroom bods that they think they are cleverly scamming when in fact they are being cleverly manipulated to scam someone else.And if you think that sentence was boring and rather ridiculous - then that's what this film is like. It features endless flashbacks to previous events which slowly advance towards the on-screen time of what is supposedly happening. It's all very mysterious and arty and quickly becomes screamingly annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if the ending was one that made you think "Ahhhh - so THAT was what was happening." Instead, you'll probably think, "Is that it? Is that all that this is about? What a load of ......". The ending has to be one of the most disaatisfying and easily anticipated of all time.I can usually find something positive to say about films or music that I dislike but in this case I can only issue one piece of advice ..... READ THE REVIEWS and notice how many different people find this film to be a total waste of time (not to mention money). The truly clever thing to do is to give it a miss and to immediately move on to another film because this one just didn't deserve to be made.

Even though the stars do their best, and I wanted to like it, the plot is far to complicated, simply because, the viewer cannot really care about what is going on with such frenzy. That leaves only the modern romance. The dialogue that the stars have to spout, in a machine gun style, does nothing to indicate that they are really interested in each other. After all the sound and fury - which is really about nothing, one would have a much better opinion of it, if at leas, it would have had a better ending. In essence, the writer and director were so obviously pleased with themselves, that they couldn't care less about the audience. It had the potential to be a lot better than it was, sadly.

You will need to keep your wits about you, but will be rewarded.The 1 star reviews are wide of the mark when they say the plot is too complex - not as normally one dimensional as many hollywood action thrillers are these days but lets engage our brains people, and concentrate for longer than 15 seconds. I'm not overly bright but enjoyed the plot, the twists, the flashbacks, the acting. All of it. Not the greatest movie, but well worth a watch if you like the leads and want a mentally engaging, whodunnit (who's gonna do it maybe!)
