El Mexicano Achiote Paste (Red, 3.5 oz)(Pack 1)

We learned about this in Central America when we lived there in the 1980's We have used it in dishes of a wide variety every since. We were very happy to find it on Amazon because we have relocated to an area where these type of things are not found in the grocery markets locally. This is the same brand we were used to when living in Mexico and Central America. When the dish you desire and are trying to prepare calls for this seasoning, and you don't have it, it is either make it yourself if you can or forget the delicious food you were longing for! Really tasty achiote paste. I love using this as a shortcut for marinating stuff like chicken or pork shoulder. Add a little fresh garlic, fresh and dried peppers to your liking, some OJ or lime juice and a little olive oil. Plop it all in a blender or food processor and you've got a great marinade in 5 minutes.

Just what I needed.

Tastes great and the price is right. I enjoy using this for more than pork. It’s great as an additive to a citrus carne asada marinade. Also adds a nice red color.

What can I say but YUM! It made the perfect charred tacos al pastor (recipe at “The Kitchen” on the Food Network.) This was the magic ingredient that made it work. Gave it the illusive reddish color and distinctive rich spice flavor. Wow!

This is a high quality, well flavored achiote paste. Nice degree of moisture as well.
