L-2 Charger is a must! UPDATE - 3 Years 9 Months Later and going strong!
Jan 24, 2022 UPDATE: So We purchased this L2 charger in April of 2018. Our hope was that this well known brand would serve as our primary EVSE. Well, here we are now 3 years, 9 months later and the EVSE is still going strong! For about half the time, in our prior home, this EVSE was an intrical part of our Solar & Home battery bank. Our Solar system would replenish our at home battery banks by day. When we returned with the Volt, we'd connect the EVSE, set the delay to start 6 hrs later. This would allow us to use the battery banks to power the home. Then after we turn in for the night, the EVSE would come on, also drawing from the battery banks to replenish the Volt's drive battery. The next morning the Volt would be ready to go and the Solar panels would replenish the in home battery banks. We moved about 18 months ago, taking our Siemens EVSE with us. Second house, second installation! While we are now in a much smaller place (I've retired), and we don't have an elaborate solar system here, we do have a fantastic albeit uncomplicated ESVE that is still recharging our Volt every single day. The simple delay start option allows us the ability to decide when charging begins. That said, I would wholeheartedly recommend the purchase of this Siemens EVSE. Basic, yes! Reliable, definitely. Easy to use, without a doubt. My only suggestion is that no matter how well you think you know electric, if you are not actually a certified electrician, that you hire a certified electrician to properly install a dedicated circuit for the EVSE to operate on. Don't risk your two most valuable assets, your home and your vehicle. ~Mr. T. Morton Original Post ---- I wanted a uncomplicated unit, just plug in and charge! I've read reviews on so may Level 2 chargers that I guess some people love because they can check the status of the charge from great distances via their smart phone. This would not be me. I just want to come home from my outing and plug in my Volt to top off the batteries. This unit has built in 2,4,6 & 8 hour charge delay for those that get better rates at night. No need to program a device and pray the app works or to have to rely on the availability of wifi to charge your vehicle. Just plug in and charge! I hired an electrician to install the 40 amp 220v service and outlet. He did a great job and including the need to run wire through the attic, he was done within a couple of hrs. The end result is I can now charge my car after bebopping around town in a matter of a couple hrs instead of overnight when I used the 110v Level 1 charger. The charger is easy to operate and I can neatly store the cord by just wrapping it around the unit itself. Though the charge cord is plenty long enough, just to have it, I wished I'd gotten the longer cord. Otherwise this was a perfect solution. A faster, better and safer way to recharge my Volt or for that matter any future vehicle that I purchase that is either a total EV, plug in Hybrid or ER electric like my Volt. Would I recommend it, YES! I suggest that unless you are appropriately skilled, that you hire a qualified electrical contractor to install the electrical service. Better safe than sorry. Mr. T Morton

Well thought out, easy install, works as advertised
I selected this unit after spending several months charging my i8 with the level 1 charger supplied with the Car. I selected it over the Bosch unit due to reviews here on Amazon even though Bosch "makes" the BMW unit. This unit was easy to install, My electrician installed the required circuit. There are three ways to install it, direct wired, plugged into a flush mounted receptacle behind the unit or plugged in to a surface or flush mounted receptacle below the unit. The installation bracket is clever in that if you choose the flush mount behind the unit option, the bracket provides "hints" to align it to the cover plate to insure that the plug will be properly aligned. This allows you to get the clean look of a direct wired unit with the portability of a plug in unit if you so desire. I chose to install the plug below, much like the picture here. I also got a second bracket, (yes $30 is a bit much for a piece of plastic and a few screws) as I wanted the option to relocate the unit to a second location in the future and the bracket arrangement is very well suited to that possibility .. one screw "locks" the unit to the bracket. Once removed the unit simply lifts off the bracket, it is very well designed. The cord management (wrapping around the unit) works well. The supplied J1772 plug fits my BMW just fine but does not lock into the socket when the car is locked as the BMW supplied unit does, other reviews here mention that. Not a problem for a unit in my garage. The socket on the front of the unit is a bit awkward to use, and in my opinion unnecessary .. I simply drape it over the top. Charge times are vastly improved, 3-4x over the level one charger I was using, allowing a full charge of the I8s modest battery in a couple of hours. The 20 foot cord provides great flexibility if/when I add another EV or choose to park in an different bay. Documentation / installation instructions are supplied on a USB stick or are available on-line. the unit has a soft green halo that glows steady when the car is attached and fully charged and pulses slowly when the car is charging, this feature can be disabled as you choose. I'm quite pleased with the unit thus far, but its early days, I'll be back in a month or so with an update.

Solid and easy to use charging station. Love it.
Works great for our Ford C-max electric. I had the electrician come out and install a dryer plug in my garage. Then we simply mounted the bracket on the wall and hung it up. Since we have an RV we put a RV plug on the same circuit so we can power the RV when it is parked in our driveway. This charge comes with a decent long cable. But be conscious when you place the unit. If you use the garage for storage and the car is in the driveway the cable is not long enough to reach the 20 feet out of the garage. We placed it closer to the garage door so there is enough slack to charge the car outside. Charging is much quicker than the factory cable that came with the car. Less than 2 hours on our car. I have to time it next time to get an idea how much faster it goes. Our standard 15 amp outlet became really hot with the factory cable and with this new setup it is all nice and cool without the fear of burning down the house. This charging station seems to be of solid quality. I like the indicator light showing that the unit is getting power. So you always know if a breaker is tripped and the unit does not get power. I have not played around with the settings. I am glad you can just plug it in the car for normal operation. The engineers had mercy and did not make you navigate through a complicated setting procedure for standard operation. Solid well built unit. Love it. One advantage to this setup with a dryer plug is that you can take it to your next house without hiring an electrician to disconnect it. Just have a dryer plug installed in your next house and take the unit with you.

Plug-and-play and Worry-free.
Brought the charge station back in Nov, 2014 and has been using it problem free for just over 7 months now on my Nissan Leaf. The unit was plug-n-play and I didn't have to change any setting when installing it. I just left the unit with the factory settings, and it instantly worked with Nissan Leaf's charge controls including timed charging. The only control on the unit that I have to use occasionally is to press the two center buttons to turn off the blinking green lights (to save energy however small it consumes) whenever the unit powers back on after a power outage. The only beef I have is the unit has a short cable for the plug, and my outlet is to the left of the unit and the cable is too short to reach. Luckily it allows for plugging into outlet on the left by turning the cable up to the left behind the unit such that the unit will be on top and cover the outlet completely. Another consideration which is not a problem for me is the size of the unit is large compared to some other vendors' offerings. I'd recommend this unit to anyone looking for a at-home charge station because of the quality, reliability, ease of use and the relatively attractive pricing.

An economical and quality charger
This EV Charger is very easy to install and has worked flawlessly for the past 6 months on my 2015 Nissan Leaf. The delay feature is especially helpful as it allows me to utilize lower electricity rates and mostly charge only enough for my morning commute (below 100% to prolong battery life). The quality of the unit appears to be very good and I expect it to work for many years to come. I have it installed half-way through the length of my tandem garage and the cord length is sufficient to charge my vehicle regardless of where it is parked. The only complaint is that the plug fits a little too tightly into the car socket. I use plugs from a variety of sources around town and none are as tight. I fear that by making it so tight it is likely to cause breakage when someone other than myslef who may not be as careful tries to use it. Still, I highly recommend it.

Great home charging station for the money
When we bought our 2018 Chevy volt, I basically gave up on trying to look cool, but boy does our home charging station make me look cool. The level 1 charger that came with the vehicle simply wasn’t going to cut it with a 14-16 hour charge time. This station charges our Volt in 4.5 hours.(14kwh capacity on the car) We looked at a few models, and we love ChargePoint and use their stations all the time; there’s one in my office building. This charger was substantially less expensive and performs without any issues whatsoever. We paid an electrician $125 to install it, and still came out with overall savings compared to ChargePoint. This product works exactly as advertised, simply plug and charge - it’s that easy. Some other models have WiFi control/apps, but you don’t really need those frills. We are on tiered energy, so it’s enough to set the delay button for when we are asleep and at super off-peak. I don’t use my car’s app, so if there was an app for this product, I wouldn’t use it either - and we have a lot of IoT devices in our home. We opted for the longer cord because of the location of the wall the power box is on. Overall we have used this for almost 6 months, and have recommended it to several of our friends who just purchased plugin hybrids because it’s worked great for us. We spend about 40% what we used to spend on gas after factoring in our energy costs. (3-4miles per kWh. At $0.19/kWh = roughly $1 per 20 miles.) Compared to our Honda Accord which costs $4 for 30 miles, this product paid for itself in less than 6 months. (In California).

Excellent charger, my trusted brand!
I use this for my 2015 Chevy Volt. I installed it inside my garage, on the wall. Everything works as it should, lights, delay timer, solid connectivity & a nice length of durable cable. I purchased this particular brand because everything inside the house & inside my detached garage is Siemens. I trust this brand because I use this brand in my home! I'm very happy that I chose this. It has cut the charging time in half or better than the stock 120V charger, plus it is much easier to use & isn't cumbersome like the stock charger. I figured that if I was going to be out & about, come home for a little while and go back out, I'd obviously benefit from a much faster charge rate 'cause let's face it, we don't buy these cars to just dump fuel into it when we can spend just pennies on the dollar to run around town. This also allows me to permanently leave the stock charger in the Volt at all times & will be there, in the trunk if needed elsewhere like on a trip. In the fast pace of life, it just makes sense. Hopefully you find this review helpful, I am delighted that I made this decision/purchase, I find it to be well worth it!

Dependable Home EV Charging
Mounted the VersiCharge to the outside of my house over six years ago and have not had any problems with it. During the winter I put a plastic bag with rubber bands around the plug when stored in order to keep moisture out from freezing the plug lock lever. Other than that, no issues.

No warranty. Not an authorized Seller
The charger is defective and I contacted Siemens. They will not honour warranty as it was sold by a reseller. Be warned. Seller says he bought it on eBay. DO not buy from this site.
